So Iā€™m at work charging, and I got an unplugged notification. šŸ¤Ø I was barely charging for an hour and was at 55% when it happened. I look out and see that some jerk in a Model 3 parked next to me and stole my charger! šŸ˜” I was busy so I couldnā€™t get out there right away, I ended up letting him have it for a couple hours. But then I went out and stole it back. No note or anything.

Mind you, itā€™s only about 7 miles to the nearest Supercharger. If he was desperate, he would only need to charge for 20 minutes to get there. But I figure he ended up with 40+ miles added and was still parked there hours later. To me what happened comes across as a total entitled jerk move. Is it just me, or does it seem like Tesla drivers are the worst?

There are only a few chargers at work and they are often full, itā€™s rare I get a chance to use them anymore. They are free, which leads to these kind of problems. There are PHEVs that frequently hog the charging spots all day even though theyā€™re done charging by 11AM, outsiders that park their cars at the chargers after the buildings are closed, and now weā€™ve moved on to unplugging incidents. Iā€™ve about had it with free charging and all the bullshit that comes with it. Weā€™re past the days of free charging being a good thing.

Now the funny thing is I was talking about this video with friends just this morning:

Ignore all the BS in the comments, seems clear to me the Tesla probably stole the Voltā€™s charger from two spots down rather than using the one on the wall behind him for his spot. And after stealing the charger, he was audacious enough to put a lock ring on it so nobody could steal it back. I feel like the Tesla probably stole that charger more than once for Volt guy to get that angry. You better believe I was feeling a bit like Volt guy this morning when I stole my charger back. It was so ironic it happened to me right after seeing that video.

I think most of you guys are pretty sensible and would never do what Mr. Tesla did to me. I would never unplug someone actively charging unless I was extremely desperate, but I would leave a note. I would only charge as long as I had to before giving it back. Hope he sees my stink eye on his camera footage when I took it backā€¦
Sucks man. Iā€™ll be honest, if I catch someone touching our car or anything connected to it, Iā€™m going to let them know they can put it back or end up on their ass. And yes, Iā€™m aware of how anti-social and juvenile that sounds/is. But, only if itā€™s a dude close to my size or bigger, if itā€™s a small person Iā€™m just taking the connector back. šŸ˜‚

And, Tesla is the new BMW for shitty drivers/owners, at least around here. Of course not all are bad, but itā€™s a disproportionate amount.

In Europe & the UK it does - you canā€™t remove a charge cable without the car being unlocked or you have the key in close proximity to the carā€™s charge port. Unfortunately Ford have only enabled it on vehicles with a Type2 socket
Donā€™t you bring your own cord in Europe?

Not always - some AC chargers are tethered, some are untethered, but we always carry a cable just in case. Obvs all the DC chargers have cables fitted, but they all lock as well.

No clue who did it, but back before my ā€˜14 Fusion Energi was a year old someone unplugged me in my own driveway. I was not impressed. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ©

Oh cool, another ā€œdrivers of brand X cars are the worstā€ thread! I guess we all need something to be angry about.

I think many Tesla drivers feel entitled because they're the first adopters in many cases used these chargers for years when they were just empty. Or maybe a$$sholes just buy Teslas. :)
Guilty as charged. But for reasons other than charger theft.

well, yes, but thereā€™s a point buried in that pretentious. As a Tesla driver you have access to some of the biggest batteries on in EVs and the best DCFC network yet youā€™re the one hogging up free charging? I personally wouldnā€™t be that person and would let the people who need them use them. Most people suck though so thereā€™s that. Considering their bountiful options m, though, it still does generally reflect on Tesla drivers. I donā€™t think they are assholes more than anyone else but they are the majority of assholes because they drive the majority of EVs.
Proof: This feenoke in the pic was 2.5 miles from a Supercharger with like 12 stalls right off I35 or about 6.5 miles from another one with 10-12 stalls. Insteadā€¦..

Its sad this happened at your workplace, if it was another employee they should get educated on etiquette.

What did you do with Teslaā€™s adapter. Throw it in the nearest dumpster?

It wasn't one of the regulars I normally see every day, so I hope not. I got their license so we'll see if they show up again.

The adapter stays locked to their car, I can't get it out without destroying their charge port like the guy in the video.

ouch - my son and daughter-in-law both have Tesla's and they are def not a$$holes.
It's a numbers game. Not all Tesla owners are asshats. Someone needs to do a proper survey so we can look at some graphs. The Tesla Asshat Ownership Graph.
