Mine give me a price of $1291, but it's not really a quote because when I call she told me that the MME was not in their system yet, so she told me I could expect double what I'm paying now.
She is saying that because of Tesla. Tesla prices are HIGH.

My agent said the same thing. He said he had a customer but a Tesla, ask for an insurance quote, then return the Tesla. That’s why he was concerned about the Mach E then quite happy when he saw it was barely more than the Leaf.

Ya insurance also told me that especially since car replacement would be more expensive as gets older but in all truthfulness i dont think this car will depreciate much until yr 3 or 4 of production since it is limited production. One thing is how desireable will this car be to thieves?
Actually that is not true at all. Car insurance stays the same but newer cars cost more. If you see your old car increase and your driving record and discounts are the same then the insurance company took a rate increase and the agent or company is blaming it on something else. In California the Dept of Insurance allows a max of 6.99% increase. Now if the insurance company really needs say a 12% rate increase they will do 6.99% in the spring and then another 6.00 in the fall. This is very common.

Here in Quebec we have what we call replacement as new. I dont know if insurances in the U.S. have this but this option a) guarantees that the garage must use o.e.m. parts and not replacement or jobber parts and b) if the car is a total loss the insurance gives you a brand new equivalent. Its this that becomes more expensive as the car gets older as you can understand.

Here south of the border you can get new car insurance but it is only for the current model year and is only good for one year. In reality not worth it. Yes you can get OEM parts but in today’s market place unlike say 10 years ago there are certain aspects where after market parts are actually better then original ones. I have clients who are professional athletes that come here from Canada and the rules from Ford Credit Canada are WAYYYYY different than Ford Credit US. Their insurance requirements are insanely expensive. Most times these athletes leave their car here after the season and then come back instead of crossing the border. My understanding is that insurance is cheaper here.

But they only do that for 5 years max.

Insurance Agents, which upsets me greatly, are in the same ball park as used car sales and lawyers. If they cannot explain why the rate is higher they simply make something up that sounds like it makes sense. For MANY years people were concerned about color having an impact on car insurance rates because colors like red are more visible to the police.

My recommendation is find another agent who actually understands their product. I buy my cars from the same person for the past 14 years. The reason is because he knows as much about cars as I do. Most salesman only know what they can see in a car brochure. My guy knows the ins and outs and keeps up with the changing Ford developments. I am buying the car because he knows more about my future car then I do. If your agent says something that seems odd, time to find a new agent
Do you count yourself along with those Insurance Agents?
Please do not make such sweeping statements. I know there are some who fit your description, but I happen to know a lot who do not. Please keep those comments to yourself and stick to simple facts.

From what I have read posted from eastern refugee, he isn't saying he is better than anyone else. His sweeping statement this whole time has been to shop around, not to just blindly trust online quotes or one company. It sounds like he has the consumer in mind and is giving sound advice.

EXACTLY..

my point is this. I was a Farmers Insurance agent for 30 years. Last year I left to be independent. Financially it was a HUGE rust at age 64 but I could not deal with constantly increasing rates. I found out that what in the industry we call BOX companies which include companies that their agents can ONLY sell their products lack creativity.

Since ordering an FE I have researched the heck out of insurance as it relates to BEV. Everything I have stated is based on both my experience and research.

in summary do NOT stay with a company because of either price OR the agent. Do what I did and look around. At the same time however do NOT be your own agent. You do NOT know all of the reasons that go into getting the RIGHT insurance coverage.
Ask questions. If the answer you get sounds like a CANNED answer then ask someone else. Find someone who KNOWS what they are talking about. EVERY person spends THOUSANDS of dollars on insurance and most people spend less time trying to understand what they are paying for but will spend an hour trying on clothes for significantly less.

my entire philosophy on here was to teach all of you the difference between reality and what the typical consumer thinks about how insurance costs are derived.

if I have offended anyone then I truly humbly apologize. You have to understand general concepts so that you can have a REAL conversation with your agent. All I am saying is that if you ask why the MME price is either high OR low ask them to explain.BOTH are critical. I am NOT trying to make everyone here an insurance agent by any means. I am just trying to offer suggestions. Trying to educate. Honestly trying to get all of you to THINK outside of the proverbial box. The MME and ALL BEVs are outside of the proverbial box. The decision to buy one is far more complicated than buying an ICE car. So when deciding on WHY you are buying a BEV also think about relative costs and insurance is at the top of the list in terms of costs.

I hope this makes sense. Do NOT take things for granted. Just as you think about the BEV concept think about insurance related concept.

Please remember that the insurance laws are different in every state. Also rates are built differently at every company. Getting advice here will only be generally helpful. As an example, Your liability coverage has surcharges and discounts based on numerous things. A new car could be included in those depending on the above qualifiers.
One thing I know is that taking advice from someone who’s job it is, is to sell you something, is a conflict of interest for them. Example: Financial planners that sell things. They have bills and quotas but maybe you need something they don’t offer.

yes laws are different in every state but the way rates are determined are not. So me trying to educate people is now a conflict of interest??? Wow. So my doctor treating me or giving me advice is a conflict of interest??

I am NOT trying to sell anything here. I did say that liability rates are impacted by the driving record. Comp and coll are impacted by the car itself. Are you a licensed agent???

FYI I do NOT sell anything!!!! I offer advice to my clients and help them protect their assets. It is THEIR choice. Geez.... I try to help people on here from all of years of experience and you make it sound like I am trying to sucker punch people. Give me a break.

this type of post is THE why some people are looking to leave this forum. Instead of just passing over it if you think I am full of crap you now try to show that I am clueless in what I do for a living. Gee thanks bud. Have a nice evening. FYI you obviouslyTHINK you understand insurance rate determinations but honestly you do not.

I wasn’t referring to you. Geez ?

As a rule I don’t take advice from people that sell or “offer” things.

So then you should stop telling people how wrong they are and right you are.
