I'm not concerned about the actual number he gave as the final score; if you look at his chart the highest rated Tesla was only 3 points better. He also talks about being on the fence with the handling score potentially deserving 1 point higher. I don't think it's as much about pleasing a fanbase as it is him simply being a tough judge.

As with everything, when there are lots of subjective variables it is hard to pick a "best". Each has its strengths and weaknesses, so trying to find an absolute best will always be based on how heavily each of those is weighted - which cannot be done objectively. What is more important IMHO is that the MME, Y, and 3 are extremely close - not just based on his review but the sum of all the reviews. That's not only a hell of an achievement for Ford's first "true" BEV, but a significant change in what was essentially Tesla's domain.

Credible competition is good for everyone.

If you watch his Bronco Sport review it is similar. Lots of enthusiasm, and then what I consider to be a low score. I wonder does he have somewhere with all his ratings? What was his highest rated car and why?
A McLaren is the highest.

He has a good write up of the score methodology on his site: http://www.dougdemuro.com/dougscore

Thanks. Interesting. We all grade things in a different way, and a lot of grading is subjective. It is interesting to note his rationales, especially on value.

All of this is fun, but I would note that even his highest rated car only got a 74. To me, a 74 is just "fair" because I look at things like I would look at a grade scale. That's fine too and his prerogative. The other interesting thing is the Tesla cars he has rated for the M3 and Y above the ME are the performance variants. It will be interesting to see how he rates the ME GT against those, including the performance variant. The ME is 6 points higher than the regular 2017 M3.

He seems pretty fair within his own sphere when you compare.

I was wondering! I got to the end after his rather glowing review and

5/10
6/10
5/10....

I was like WTH?!??
That does seem odd. The rest of the video was more positive than that.

His voice pattern sure takes getting used to though.

(P.S. It's great to have a thread for a specific video to talk about. Much easier this way.)

I once watched him say “wow when you step on it this thing really hauls” and proceed to give it 1/10 for acceleration. The thing you have to realize about him is that he’s literally comparing every car on his scale to supercars.

There are a few people that point out the I-pace or Audi E-tron seems better interior but we also have to understand the price point cost that is way higher with those two.
What surprised me were the number of video reviews that gave such high marks for the interior they thought the Mach E was comparable or better than the interior on these luxury brands -- nice!

So "average" for him is like what, a 3?

Glad he wasn't my teacher in school, most of the class would get D's. ?

yeah, that's what I would tell my parents - it was because the scale was so off.

It seemed to me like his video had more commercial breaks than any other YouTuber I watch.

He recently gave the $90k RAM TRX 3 points higher than the Mach-E. But, I'm definitely not going to cancel my Mach E and spend almost $40k more just because of Doug ...

He said the Gt will get 3 more points and that will give it a total score of the best of them all. Only the regular I-pace 1 point did he score better than the mache but the I-pace comes with a bigger price. So from Doug the mache really got a great score.
3 points for a bigger second engine and rougher riding suspension? I think someone's missing the point on what Ford is trying to do and proving to be quite successful. Will the GT be a great car? Yes. Will it win mass appeal because of its' differences from the other MachE's? Probably not (despite being the only option with the best color). I believe he has a questionable rating system that is no better than buyers who only look at range as criteria.

That doesn't make sense. I have to agree.
Actually that's one thing I agree with in his review. At face value the iPace is more appealing as a luxury EV. The MachE attempts to up-level itself but falls short of luxury status in my opinion. The efforts to chase after the Tesla'ratti don't help. I wouldn't call any Tesla I've been in or the MachE a true luxury car (EV or otherwise). The iPace hits the marks in that category. Unfortunately, its' perceived reliability concerns and price make it less approachable for value minded buyers, even ones who can afford it. There's no doubt in my mind that the MachE is an overall better built car. But Ford has to recognize there are worthy competitors out there without a 'T' as their badge as well.

I don't think Ford has any such illusions - while the Mach E has more "upscale" appointments than usual, their inclusion was directly aimed at matching the lead dog. Tesla is not a luxury brand either, but Ford is concentrating on competing with the Tesla as the brand owning 78% of the EV market. I don't think Ford is or SHOULD worry about the "true" luxury brands - etron or ipace, at the moment.
