I'm waiting for them to call me back as they are looking into it (had to go to manager...).

To me, It seems like dealer games (let me speak with the manager and get back to you...) I was trying to avoid these types of games.

I understand the importance of dealers but if they are acting in this way then this process, the process Ford wanted to move to has failed so far.
I think the perception of the process was to try and do it like tesla but with the hope that most dealers would be on board but expecting some to go their own way. Being different counties it is hard to control it.

I agree, which is why maybe Ford will have to follow in GM's footsteps regarding Cadillac dealers. Either get with the program or hand over the keys. I think id rather everybody order their car and pay the same price than have some increase prices and others cut their prices. Its the only business where the price of the same product varies so much from store to store even though the stores fall under the same brand. I understand each dealer is independant but at a certain point Id rather shop for best sercice than best price. Levelling the playing field should do that.

But consumer protection laws are or may be different in some cases I suppose.

Doesn't look like sale over MSRP. Looks like they wan't a bigger advance. If there was a schedule of advances that needed to be paid, it should be stated up front. I don't think I've ever paid more than 500$-750$ as deposit for a car from a major maker. That inlcudes luxury brands like Lexus and Volvo.

Requesting an additional deposit seems pretty close to it and quite underhanded if you ask me. How can someone be expected to give an additional non refundable deposit when one was already given. Sounds like the dealer would rather have him cancel his order by giving unacceptable terms.

Yes the dealer estimates the price but they will sell it to you at msrp when they receive it.
In Canada the Bill of sale should have listed the price when you signed it. They can't change the Bill of sale just like you can't. Did you not have a total dollar on the BOS? Does it say on x date you will pay $2000 additional toward the purchase?

Not on mine, I don't know about the OP and this is the first I have heard of any dealer doing this

I think it would be against the law to sale anything over the advertise price and that is also true for cars.
MSRP is only the manufacturer's suggested retail price. And Ford isn't the one selling us the car, the dealer is.

Also, IIRC, I think I remember reading many months ago that they weren't allowing dealers to sell the MME for under MSRP (plan pricing excepted). But over was allowed.

Thanks for the responses guys; good to have a nice community out there.

But yes. I thought the $500 is a done deal until delivery. For $2500 that was reservation $ for First Editions in Canada. This is confirmed to be just 'more' deposit that applies against the MSRP, but was only announced to me after all this time.

Having it non-refundable just rubs me the wrong way as it seems they want to ensure they are covered now even though it didn't matter previously. Even though I am super serious about this vehicle, not knowing when it gets delivered and of course no demo model it would be nice to know these items before fully fully having it non-refundable (or as per above; shouldn't matter since its a vehicle that will sell anyways).
I pre-ordered a FE last year, and the deposit I had to put was 3,000$ but fully refundable even the day I go to pick up the car. Never had any additional, but I know the salesman keeps trying to hassle me to buy extra packages and did try to markup the price. I've talked to him a few times now because the prices doesn't add up and he tries to wave them away as "Oh yeah, you added 2k extras on it.".... which I never did. I just ordered a normal FE. There's going to be some negotiations to be done on my side when I go and officially buy it. As in Canada, the FE is at 59k + 9k for the package, which means it starts at 68k. But on my current "pre-order" the price was set at 73k+taxes.

This is not the case for this car. Normally you would be right, but this car is a different case. This has been discussed plenty of times in the past. This is why in the states the car was allowed to be ordered online. There is not supposed to be any markup from the dealer.
Still so not true...the dealers will charge what the market will be willing to pay. There are dealers who have additional make up over MSRP even on the ford web site. If you look at your order on the website under "pricing summary" there is a line item called "difference from total MSRP". That is the place holder that several dealers are adding additional mark up over MSRP.

I know this doesn't apply to Canada. But a lot of replies in this thread are talking about Mach E in US.

In US, on Ford's "reservation & orders" page where we can find our converted orders, there is "difference from MSRP" and "dealer selling price" under "Pricing Summary". Dealers that want to charge mark ups need to populate that with a non-zero value before they accept the order. This is not a "suggested" price.

i know there was a misunderstanding. We started a thread months ago in which many dealers did not add markup including mine in Canada therefore I was under the impression that dealers were not supposed to be adding markup since many requested their orders be moved to dealers who were not charging markups.

The dealer bulletin announcing the unique e-Invoice for the Mach-E (MSRP = dealer invoice) was very specific about 2 points.

1. The dealers may not ADVERTISE the Mach-E for less than MSRP

"Dealers may not advertise or promote the Mustang Mach-E at a price, payment, or offer that is derived from a starting price that is below MSRP, less available public incentives."

2. The dealers can SELL the Mach-E for what ever price they want.

"Despite the restriction on advertising, dealers can transact with the customer at any price they choose (at, above, or below MSRP)"
