I don't think it's illegal, I thought the issue was the replacement cost and insurance coverage and acceptance of the added costs

Hey!
We had a very mild winter this year compared to 2022/2023 so my experience may not have been the same as last year. The recall definitely helped the concern; Ford at least put that out to do an HVAC update to pump more heat through the cabin to prevent fogging(my main concern.)
The only reason why I was getting answers is because I worked at a Ford dealer, I had the opportunity to reach out to higher ups, engineers, etc. I even offered to have my vehicle sent to Ottawa for Transport Canada to look at my vehicle and test it as a patient zero situation(they declined but appreciated the effort lol) But all in all the update definitely did help. I did not leave my vehicle unplugged at all through the winter, took my portable charger with me wherever I went if I was staying for an extended period of time. Using the preconditioning feature is an absolute lifesaver. I would strongly recommend never running this thing cold. you'll have a bad time.

Auto level 2 and 29.5c is what I had the temp set at with the heated seats on auto and heated steering wheel on. If you have the temp set to high the fans will crank on and the heater wont be able to keep up.

With that being said the only thing I got from Ford for all this was a $200 fordpass rewards credit and a big ol' sorry.

I wish I had more to say about this!
Glad you touched on the key points to make things bearable below -25C, but to reiterate:
  • Have an updated HVAC and powertrain calibration
  • You must plug in when not in use
  • You must set a departure time and use a >30A charger before trips
  • You must use AUTO to limit the fan speed
Skipping these will make things worse. The heater power is still limited. Canadians should consider trading for a 2023.5 model with the updated 7kW heater.

In terms of both heat and eliminating fogging, is Auto the selection of choice because it also modulates the recirculation/fresh air damper to carefully balance heat output and defrost? This was my understanding of why Auto was preferred over setting a manual lower fan speed and setting defrost on only.

Yes, those things are optimized in AUTO for the most possible heat. You will still get a little fogging but it usually goes away in a minute or two. Covering the roof glass also makes a huge difference.

Ah okay, so same boat as me (minus the hills.....Flat as can be in Manitoba).
I wonder why there is such a variation in heating.

Could this be the reason that I don’t share the same concerns? I will have to verify my build date once I get the vehicle back.

Confirmed my build date as August 2023, is there an easy way to confirm the heater kw?

OBD scanner is how I would do it. Turn the heat up to max and check the HVB heater kW.
