How many of us have owned or still own a Mustang and have reserved a Mach-E? I currently have a 2010 Shelby GT500, and a 1988 Mustang GT that I have owned since it was new. Have reservation number 17,XXX for a Mach-E GT. I find that many people seem to think the two cars are incompatible and can't imagine why one would be interested in both. In fact, a lot of the ICE Mustang folks seem quite angry about it.

I am interested in what other Mustangs people have owned, and what reaction they have experienced to the Mach-E.

For me:
2010 GT500
1988 Mustang GT
1987 Mustang 5.0 LX (sold long ago)
1997 SVT Cobra (sold when I bought the GT500)

I've owned a number of Fords but never a Mustang. I've been rather shocked at the angry reaction from many Mustang loyalists to the Mach-e being branded a Mustang. I had no idea there was such a fervent fan base.

When I see Mach-e postings (Twitter, YouTube, etc), they're often flooded with #notamustang comments from the angry loyalists. I can understand a little pushback but it's gone way beyond what I expected.

But I also wonder if that was marketing genius by Ford. The buzz (even if negative) has given the Mach-e a lot of free publicity.

I've owned a 1989 GT a 1997 Cobra and a 2003 GT Convertible. Porsche made their SUVs in the early 2000s which saved the company. Without them there probably wouldn't be a Porsche today. I don't think the Mach E can do that for Ford but I think it's a stepping stone to prepare them for the next decade or two. That being said the name is just a name and the marketing and work done for it to have that name seems to be there. Genesis is now a brand much like Corvette and SRT is its own brand within their respective companies. I see it as a good thing to allow that philosophy of mustang to carry through other models because it should help pull Ford through tough times and hopefully carry the sports car through when GM has no plans for the Camaro.

I had a 1986 GT and a 2004 GT, currently driving a 2015 GT. Selling the latest one for the Mach-E GT.

I don't think the Mach-E is a Mustang. It's a cool electric crossover.

I see Mustang fans post that they would never buy it because it's not a Mustang.

Of course, that's a lie. It could be called the Ford Escort and they wouldn't buy it because of whatever reason. The Mustang label is just the handy excuse.

I have reserved a Mach-E but plan on keeping my 2015 Mustang convertible 50 year anniversary package as well.

I owned a 64 Mustang years ago, long gone at this point. I wanted a BEV AWD SUV or crossover, to replace my previous 2010 Subaru Legacy Outback. I have owned eight different Fords, I still have an F250. I don't care if it is called a Mustang or not, it fits what I want and it looks to be a very cool car. I had previously been considering a Tesla model Y, and I will most likely test drive one when that is possible, but the Mach E will very likely be my next car, replacing the Clarity which was an interim EV for me from the start. If I had money to burn and was willing to wait, I might get the Rivian R1S, but I don't see that happening in reality, and my off-roading days are pretty much over anyway.

I am driving my third mustang right now (2015 convertible, which I will keep), and drove my 2000 v6 hardtop until I handed it down to my son in 2012. My first was a 1987 4 cylinder LX - which did a lot more damage to the mustang "luster" than the Mach E does. The Mach E may have 4 doors, but it also won't get embarrassed off the line by a souped up lawnmower. The brand is about fun and performance, and the Mach E looks like it has enough of that to qualify.

I get identifying with others in a group based on something you really like, but emotional and intellectual maturity has to come into play also. Ultimately Ford has to build what sells and makes a profit, and they are also constrained by governments trying to get environmental damage under control. They sold the fewest mustangs ever last year (70,000), continuing the long term downward trend. They also have to significantly improve the carbon footprint of the fleet before they bleed to death from fines and regulations. If selling an electric crossover with a horse emblem on it allows Ford to continue to make and sell those low volume V8 muscle cars, the pony clubs should be adult enough to accept the reality of the situation.

My first car when I was 15 in 1986 was 1966 Mustang Coupe with a straight six. I fixed it up with my dad on the weekends. My parents were divorced and it was his way to get me to come see him instead of spending all the time with my friends as any 15 year old might want to do. I sold it to help pay for college, which even though I needed the money at the time I wish I still had that car. During my midlife crisis a few years ago ;), my wife told me to go find a Mustang again and so I did. I now own a 1965 Mustang convertible with a v289, original Detroit built in August 1964. Remembering what I had learned with my dad way back in the 80s and with the help of youtube sometimes, I have been able to fix up the '65 and I have been loving it. When the S550s were announced I knew I needed to have one, so I ordered a 2015 GT convertible 50 Years edition. So now I have the 1st year and the 50th year.

When Ford announced that the Mach-E was going to be a Mustang I was very excited and I reserved a First Edition in Carbonized Gray as soon as the books opened on 11/17/19. I love my current Mustangs obviously, but they are garaged 6 months of the year. Now I can have an AWD Mustang, drive it year round and get people into and out of the back seat without needing to use a can opener. As far as whether or not the Mach-E is a Mustang, until I get a chance to drive one, I really will rely on the opinion of one person and one person only, and that is Dave Pericak. If he says it's a Mustang I believe him, because he was Chief Engineer in bringing the S550s into existence.

I see no reason why the Mach-E cannot coexist as a Mustang with the ICE Mustang coupe. I'd certainly rather have it this way than to have the Mustang simply be cancelled and not exist at all anymore. If the Mach-E helps keep the Mustang nameplate and coupe around longer, I say bravo to Ford for thinking long term.

I own an 06 gt, bought new. And an 86 gt, which is mostly a drag car at this point. Admittedly, I had reservations when the mach e was named a mustang, but have come around. That compliance ev they were toying with would have been a complete dud. Leveraging the mustang iconography and spirit by launching a performance centric ev that will be fun to own and has an identity (looking at you, chevy) was a smart move, imo. I dont have an issue with those who say it is not a true mustang, they dont have to buy it. But they weren't going to buy the compliance car, either. So no loss from ford perspective. I highly doubt true mustang supporters are going to go away from mustang because there is now a sporty 4 door ev with the nameplate. Maybe I will be proven wrong, but expect the mustang will be just fine, maybe even getting a bump for the extra eyes the ev will bring into the ford fold.

Since 1984 I have been driving in a Mustang. Current owner of 2017 GT. Keeping it. Waiting to bring over the new Mach E Mustang in my garage. I know I will have fun with it.
By the way, I like the name. I am looking forward to it. 14.XXX lot number.

I have a 1968 coupe and a 2007 GT.
I was preparing to purchase a Ford Connect for work/cargo vehicle when the Mach E was announced. I was a little dragged when they called it a Mustang but someone said something like, “if we don’t embrace new technology then we won’t have a Mustang in the future”

Which made sense and sold me on the idea. There’s no written rule that says Mustang has to be a 2 door vehicle. TBH the name that bothers me in the Mach E hahaha

I have a 15 EcoBoost Performance Pack Premium, which was also considered "not a real Mustang" because it didn't have a V8 and is an automatic. Honestly I think the anger is hilarious especially because alongside the few hundred to a thousand negative comments most of the Mustang Mach-E posts have 10s of thousands of likes. Mustang just has that cool factor, and I think if it was a Mustang-inspired Ford the end product would've been different for sure.
I'll end up selling my 15 for the Mach-E, but to keep the fun factor I'm probably going with the RWD version and putting snowtires on it if it's too slippery without them.

First Ford for me. Actually if it was a Ford badge instead of the Mustang, I prob would have skipped it. For me, the Mustang badge conveys both the premium performance characteristics of the Mach E. And also the commitment from Ford to make sure this is a success. That makes me more comfortable in purchasing a gen 1 BEV.

Let me tell you a little story. When I met my wife both of us then drove Mustangs. Hers was a convertible. We enjoyed them immensely. Now we own a 2017 GT convertible premium. When we get in it we go back to our first date. We fight who will drive our pony. The feelings are plenty.
The Mustang feeling.
The Mach E will do the same. We expect the same. There will be more fights of who will drive this new pony. We expect Ford to deliver. It is the Mustang feeling.
Can't wait.!!!
