Anyone know why we are at a standstill regarding new updates?
I think Ford hit a major issue or stumbling block in the Mach-e architecture about a year ago and has been trying to find a way through it or attempting to work around it ever since. That’s not based on any insider information, just a feeling from the posts and the radio silence on such things. You’re free to disagree (or not), it is after all just speculation and I’ve been known to be wrong.

I agree...I think you're right...without having any actual evidence. It would appear to outsiders like us that something is definitely being given a good coat of thinking-over before being re-wickered. I just hope they endeavor to persevere.

They could just assign a campaign to VINs where the dealer can do the PSCM/IPMA updates needed. That way, all they would have to do to enable it for people on BC 1.0 is send out a minor config OTA and anyone with BC 1.2/1.3 would automatically have BC 1.4 without anything else needing to be done. The OTA process has been able to deliver all the updates needed for this with the exception of these two.

That's pretty much what they did with job 1 F150's & MME's that shipped with the promise that BC was coming via OTA. For the ICE trucks, OTA 2.8.1 included the IPMA/PSCM updates needed to enable BC 1.0, and that update package also included updates to the CCM, CMR, DSCM and ADAS modules. Needless to say, it was a disaster and that OTA had a very high fail rate. They seemed to have learned their lesson a bit and the updates needed to enable BC 1.4 were broken down so it was not so many modules being updated in one packet. Everything went well until the got to 7.0.0 (with the exception of 6.13.0, but they fixed that with CMR-FX).

Eventually, Ford realized that the 2.8.1 update was not going to work, and they skipped vehicles that hadn't gotten it and they went straight to the 3.x.x series of updates and required customers who didn't get BC OTA to go the dealer route for 21G01 (or the Mongoose route).

I think this is going to end up the same way. It has been 7 months now since 7.0.0 was pulled. This is also speculation, but I expect a new version of 21G01 to be released where they are going to have to bite the bullet and pay dealers the labor hours needed get the IPMA on the right level. I hope I am wrong as this would obviously be inconvenient to the masses.

this recent OTA slowdown (plus just a general interest in tinkering) has me really debating dropping the money on a mongoose and power supply… would be particularly nice to have the IPMA updates before all of our roadtripping this summer

In my opinion, the mongoose is like buying the missing spare tire, but using it often enough to actually get my money's worth. About 10X's!!! ?

I’m not sure it’s quite that straightforward. Enabling dealers to resolve the issues is also an issue in and of itself. Far too many, albeit a distinct minority, are rather intransigent in their ways. Personally, I’d rather do it myself annyway, although BC in and of itself is of no interest to me — no Bc roads here. The features that bleed over to ACC (Hands on BC) such as slowing down around the corners of interest me though.

The lack of dealer competence is what led me to the Mongoose (Somehow fitting considering I live in Hawaii), the power supply and a new laptop. And an occasional FDRS license of course.

Got one of these laying around, https://a.co/d/93pMYwq , I assume it has more speed than the Mach E’s USB can handle.

Of which, USB A, C, or doesn’t matter?
It depends on the maximum sustained throughput of the storage device. I use a PCIe SSD in a USB 3.2 case, USB-C physical interface. It’s faster than the MME can handle so I get pretty fast USB updates. Many devices will say “up to” x MB/s, but that’s their peak output, not sustained. ?‍♂?

That said...the console ports are USB 2.0 only (4 wire) just so everybody is aware. Only so much 'skip' you can put in the 'giddyup'.

I now have a 1TB NVMe SSD in an enclosure that is definitely the faster than my Sandisk I've been using for the last three years. So I was gonna give that a try the next time.
You’re going to like it, Mike. ??
