Every time people debate the merits of choosing the Mustang badge, Jim Farley smiles at the earned media , and a Mustang angel gets its wings.?

Is it possible that they were playing around with the screen and accidentally setup a charge schedule for their location?

If they did perhaps it thought it wasn't time to charge.
Very good point and is completely possible.
For others who may not be aware......
With Ford vehicles, it is very easy to toggle between the Value Charge vs Charge Now settings and those settings are very specific. There are multiple ways to change that setting and one method is to press the compass controls on the steering wheel right after the vehicle is turned off. I think it gives you about 5 or 6 seconds to make that change. It is very possible those guys pressed that button without realizing it. In that case, the vehicle would not charge at that location until a certain time of day.

I do not know if the MME has that same feature but I presume it would. It's a very handy feature and I use it all the time on my car. For most days....the location specific charge settings are fine but there are times where I want to change it for that one instance so it is very handy to just toggle that setting with the steering wheel controls vs having to navigate through the Sync menu to edit that setting.

Yeah I used that all the time in my Focus Electric. It didn't work quite as well in the C-Max as you had to go through the menus--wasn't just a quick selection.

Possible, but it just seems like that car was buggy for charging in general.

Plus, would the charging schedules apply to DCFC too? Seems like it would apply to AC charging only. Can't think of a situation where someone would plug in a DCFC charge and want it delayed by shedule.

Not they don't work for DCFC.

In addition: There is no evidence that the two issues were related to each other either. Simply because they were charging issues doesn't mean its the same root cause.

Let's also keep in mind that EA just fired up the Plug & Charge last month. These issues of communicating with EA chargers may be more of an EA issue than a Ford issue. Time will tell but at least that's another software item.
I never said itā€™s a Ford issue .. I have been in 3 different pre-production Mach E ..and two of them the Ford tech noted does not have the hardware to support p&c only the latest pre-production Mach E had the latest hardware/software needed thus the reason why I stated testing in early pre-production is truly not valid to use and compare with another vehicle .. no way around that ..

TFL review of a pre-production car should have been stated in ALL their videos and test because they made it seems something was wrong with the Mach E and as far as I am concerned their issue is pushing a pre-production car .. they need to retest everything in a production customer version of the Mach E.

Totally agree. Bugged me that they never (that I recall) said that it was a pre-production unit rather than a real production car. That asterisk should have been mentioned just as often as Tommy had to (repeatedly) remind his dad that it was apples-to-oranges to keep comparing a Model Y PERFORMANCE model to a low-end MME.

The conclusion I would draw is that Ford is being very conservative with the DC charging right now, and once they get some data, they may increase the speeds. It doubt Ford would give journalists a vehicle with old/slow charging curves.

Others have also posted lackluster charging speeds (I believe Vehicle charged at top speed for a few minutes then around 100 kw to 60% then 80kw until 80% and then the speed dropped off a cliff). This was probably the same and just lower speeds due to the extremely low temps (the Tesla also did not charge at its normal speed).

Perhaps, but I was more referring to it failing to charge at all on most of their attempts (even L2). Just seems like that one was a buggy pre-production unit.

Exactly - there may be 2 different causes since DCFC and AC charging don't share all the same components, but then again it might be a singular cause since many components are shared. For example, the J1772 connector could have an issue.

I appreciate these sorts of reviews. Itā€™s a very honest take. I disagree with the conclusion - Iā€™m definitely leaning MME over Tesla Y, but I think thatā€™s because Iā€™m prioritizing different things than the reviewer.

The extended range MME is comparable in range to the Tesla but the tax credit makes the MME several thousand cheaper, AND the MME looks so much better and has a driverā€™s side instrument cluster. I also know Fordā€™s build quality to be superior. So thatā€™s a lot of big advantages to Ford.

I have no reason to disagree that Tesla has the superior tech and charging network, but thatā€™s stuff that can easily be tweaked and upgraded in the next couple of years. So I donā€™t place as much weight on Teslaā€™s current advantages.
