Damn these numbers aren’t too good Model Y Long Range AWD did 276 miles......I guess the lack of heat pump really makes a difference.....ugh!!!
model y long range awd has epa range of 326 miles. If it was 50 miles short it's basically the same as 219 for 270 epa miles

This is so different than what the tfl guy saw

If you back out the 15% for climate that will give you a conservative estimate of a rainy mild spring day. (That’s an exact ~42 miles. )
In warmer weather you will not the the battery conditioning either.

Me when I see MPGe it doesn't tell me anything where here it would be liters/100km but can't we all talk the same language like miles-km/kWh?

It's more of a cultural thing. Tesla will roll the dice, burn down their battery, and if customers make warranty claims because their range in a few years is poor, they just send in the lawyers. Everyone else has already been through the warranty wars, and will try and do what is right for the customer. Tesla just has a different business strategy than most. Over time, it will likely move to towards the strategy of legacy makers due the huge legal cost they will ultimately incur.

Nah. Never. Cold in Kailua Kona is low 60s for the over night low. In January. After a cold front passes. It’s tough duty.

The coldest subdivision on island is probably Waiki’i. 4,000 to 6.000 ft elevation. In February it can drop to the 40s over night if a cold front passes through and there’s snow on MaunaKea.. But otherwise it’s rather Santa Barbara like there.

We’re not going to have cold induced range issues here. ;)
My dad wasted my inheritance living many years at Mauna Lani before moving up to the fog and cold of the saddle road. The view was great when he wasn’t socked in.

Just heard a report that Hawaii was nation’s quickest place to blow through a million in retirement. 10 yrs, 3 mos. Compared to the least expensive, Miss. 23 years.

Might be worth it if I golfed.

On that day @TFLtommy saw what he judged as a conservative guessometer range of 158 miles at the start of the day in the cold of Colorado in a SR AWD with 211 EPA. Drove 143 hard miles up and over a mountain pass that reduced his guessometer range by less, only 123 used. MME showed 30% battery capacity remaining. Extrapolating on that day over those mountains an SR AWD managed (143 is 70% of) 204 hard real world mile range.

His dads MYp with an EPA of 315, showed 294 miles of range at the start, drove the same 143, and reduced expected range by 172. MYp reported it used 56% of its battery capacity, extrapolating to a real world range of (143 is 56% of) 255 hard miles that day.

SR AWD MME delivered 97% (204/211) of EPA [68 kWh pack]

MY performance delivered 81% (255/315) of EPA [72.5 kWH pack]

If ER AWD MME can deliver 97% of its 270 EPA it’s real world would have been 262 miles, albeit on a 88 kWh pack.

Most likely up at Waiki`i Ranch. That's now the "old" Saddle road. No golf there though.

How fast you burn through 1 million dollars depends upon a lot of things. Mostly on how leveraged you are and what your other expenses are. I've been retired (unofficially and officially) for 8 years now. Touched almost none of the nest eggs. But if my choices were Hawaii or Mississippi? You're not dragging me and my mach-e from here. :)

Yes, the ranch. If you want to limit visits from friends on the mainland in January and February, move to Waiki`i Ranch. You’ll
have the fog & the VOG, cold weather, rain and be about as far from the beach as possible on the Island—an hour straight up the mountain on (then) mostly two land roads.

I worried, until he passed of other causes, that I’d learn he had been forced off the road by a runaway truck coming down or that he had lost his own brakes. He had an S class Mercedes that would rival the MME in weight. If you let it, before you knew it, you were flying down the mountain towards the full stop T. Balancing speed, safety, and the fade.

He was a member and played at The Big Island Country Club, if that still exists.

The actual tested range was 224, right? The 219 was the predicted highway range based on EPA consumption. It would have been nice to know the "Route" percentage at the end of the trip. The picture showing 78% for route was taken early in the trip. It is showing 15% for climate and 4% because of the cold temps, but those might or might not have changed over a long drive. If those percentages were relatively constant over this test, I would think 260ish miles would be doable in ideal weather.

fact. And that is where 10 years of ownership comes in. We are way early in the EV game. But ron is correct

Waiki`i is a great area. 20 minutes from Waimea and under an hour from Kona. Old Saddle Road though is a pain. People don't understand it's a two-lane road at best and at spots, it's still a real single-lane road. Can't wait to sail through there in my mach-e.

Middle of Waiki`i Ranch today at noon and it's no higher than 55. Yeah, welcome to Hawaii. Vog is light though. Volcano just woke up after being quiet for 2 years. Likely a short term eruption (for now). 0 visibility in Fog by 4:30 pm. Good time to test the fog capabilities of the mach-e. If only I had one. ;)

Big island country club is still there. Changed its name to Makani Country Club a couple of years back. Makani is "windy" in Hawaiian. It is.

If anybody has any questions on how Tesla handles battery degradation, just ask Model S 85 owners how they like their cars now.

(I think this guy has a reservation for an MME)
