Green Car Reports does 70mph highway test with Premium AWD Extended Range Mach-E, gets EPA range

The author says he got 2.6mi/kWh @70mph in rain + wet roads at 50F.

Tom Moloughney put 35kWh into his MME AWD ER in 22 minutes (43% to 80%).

That works out to approx. 41mi of real world 70mph range every ten minutes.

Look, if I was Tesla, I might think hard about doing the same battery/range stuff. It's survival mode. You are marketing "on paper" efficiency and range to drive sales, you gotta do whatever it takes to live another day.

I mean, which is worse - bankruptcy, or paying warranty and making customers mad? Neither is good, but one is immediately fatal.

You have a large percentage of your fanbase that will take the beating no matter what. I'm sure it's distasteful to some inside of Tesla, but they have to exploit that fanbase to the fullest.

There was a poll down at the bottom of the article. When I voted, something like 40% of the respondents said that amount of battery degradation was acceptable. I'm guess a lot of those were Tesla owners. It is strange. The article talks about how that will literally be bad enough to get it replaced under warranty and people were still saying that it was acceptable. I guess that's what you can get away with extreme brand loyalty.

I do wonder what is going to happen to Tesla in a few years. I think they will have more and more warranty issues. They will have a lot more competition. And their biggest profit driver, environmental credits sold to other manufacturers, will start to run dry.

I won't get into their stock market value debate, but overall it just seems like reality will eventually catch up to them.

That wouldn’t affect me since I would be leasing a Model Y........sounds like a problem for someone who is thinking about keeping the car for long which I am not.

If you want to lease and don’t want a buyout option then sure, then it can be a numbers game. I was just pointing out that the analysis was not apples to apples since it was an extended range vehicle costing more that was being compared to a standard range.

Yep I do not care about a buy out, you never buy out a lease unless the car for some reason is worth more at the end of the lease then they originally thought, that rarely ever happens. Also I have no clue what you are talking about? Standard range? This specific post talked about an extended range awd mach-e and im comparing it to the tons of 70mph model y long range awd variant. That is apples to apples........
