I accidentally pressed the button on the door when the door was open. the key was left in the car. I slammed the door and that's it. now I can't open it. the card with the password for the door is in the trunk, I don't remember the password. there is no other key at all. what are the options to open it? I heard that you can get the factory password for the door, which doesn't change, it is connected to the vin number. and what are the other options to open the car? and why did it close with the key inside?

Did you try to open with FordPass on your phone, or did you leave it in the car as well?

Impressive, I didn't think the car would allow it to be locked with keys inside.

I ran into this with my Lightning shortly after getting it. It won't lock with walk away lock or lock button on the handle, but will with keypad.

I purposely do this all the time. It is great for going on runs and not having to carry a key or anything. If you know the door code its a super convenient way of getting in and out for stuff like that. When I still used PAAK I would put my phone into airplane mode so it wouldn't connect to the car.

FordPass App
PAAK
Password on door
Spare key
Break window

Those are your options.

Ford gives you a lot of ways to unlock your car.

You can also get Ford to to open the car. If you got Ford Premium Care with (optional) Key Service, it's free. Otherwise you have to pay for that.

4 ways I know of that a working key fob (not in a faraday bag or with battery removed) can be locked inside the car:

1. Touching the 7/8, 9/0 buttons on the driver's door keypad.
2. Touching any exterior door lock button with your PAAK enabled phone or second key fob in your pocket.
3. Pressing the lock button on your PAAK enabled phone/watch or second key fob.
4. Apple computer with iPhone Mirroring enabled.

First thing I did before driving the car (23 gt) off the lot was to set my own code for the door key pad so that I would never forget it. Less than a one-minute exercise.

That works great, but only if you remember the code. As OP said, he forgot it. Might be a good idea to use it from time to time, just to make sure you remember it.

Once you get back in put you key code in the notes app in your phone

I told a certain 6 year old little gal the door code. She not only can recite it to gramps if/when I experience a lapse, but she also walks much faster and gets to the car and does the honor for me. PAAK can't get to the car as fast at times. ?

Or use your birthday, or your home address, or your kid's birthday, or something you use every day. The likelihood that some random thief will know any of this is pretty small
