It's their standard. You want to use NACS.... get with the program.
Else don't use Tesla SC. ?‍♂

I hope other charging companies would get their act together. That latest Out of Spec cannonball run across US goes to show how far these companies need to catch up to Tesla.

Technically, it’s not “their” standard. It’s SAE 3400, and maintained by SAE. Practically speaking, Tesla owns all their SuperChargers and controls the design of them. Tesla can do whatever they want with their SuperChargers.

J3400
I haven't spent the $195 to obtain a copy of the standard; does anyone know whether it specifies cable length (I assume not)?

Tesla can do what they want but if they're in the business of selling charging they might want to be more flexible in the cars they can charge and the charging locations on the various models (like Costco gas stations are with the long, long hoses). The fact that V4 cables are longer then older versions suggests that someone at Tesla agrees that longer cables appeal to more drivers. In the future non-Tesla stations will roll out with J3400 ports so competition will drive selection. I haven't really had an issue with Electrify America reliability in 2024.

Tesla made a vehicle their old chargers also doesn’t work for…….making the cable longer is the logical solution not limiting vehicle design.

My comment about Tesla doing what they want with their SuperChargers was in reference to the post I was replying to. Personally, I think it would be intelligent for Tesla to make longer cables, which would allow more people to buy charging from them. What do I know though? Elon is a billionaire and I am not ?

And those corners are vulnerable. Where the charge port is on the MME is a much better location from my stand point. ?‍♂?
Couldn’t disagree more. The safety benefits of back end parking are well documented, but not well accepted. It’s safer for people especially kids as well as property to back end park. People just don’t like to change habits. Charge port should be like Tesla to force back end parking. This is a trivial exercise with 360 cameras and it ends up
taking less time overall.

I rather got used to the Nissan Leaf location after a short time with it. Just back normal.

Then the Mach-E location became normal for me as well.

I suppose if it were to get moved to the rear corner, that would become normal too.

I remember those gassers with the fuel filler behind the rear license plate when I was a kid. Pretty clever, at the time. I'd adjust to that as well. :)

And I remember being gobsmacked as a young tike when my uncle showed me where the gas filler was on his 50's Cadillac:

That's pure Artist meets Engineer

I was a little lad, but Cadillac was on a roll through the 50-60 with such flair. My dad, who couldn't afford such things, was still smitten and pointed such things out to me. I think I was enamored with him being so enamored. And thus my lifelong passion for things with wheels.

My dad was a car salesman who eventually became general manager of a Buick/Opel/Jaguar (and special order Rolls Royce) dealership. He didn't own a car (mom did), but would drive demonstrators. Allowed me to test drive a Jag V-12 when I had just barely got my driver's licence. Had me floor it on this long road with no cross streets. Scary AF, but exhilarating!

He was always a GM guy, would diss Fords (Fix Or Repair Daily). I had a few second thoughts about buying the Mach-E, thinking of him. But, after 3 years (almost) with this car -- with very few, and only minor problems -- pretty sure he'd dig it.

Thanks Dad.

Considering the cost of copper, the shortest cable length possible allows for the lowest cost charger design and higher current delivery possible. When the charger network was originally designed for a single manufacturer by the manufacturer, the system (car and charger) can be optimized.
And at this point that manufacture has made vehicles that don’t work for their design….so at some point the design has to change.

Tesla can auto park and I’ve still pulled up to a charge site with a bunch of people over their lines.

I’m sorry if you mistakenly thought I was advocating for auto parking. I was not, in fact I made no mention of it.

I’m advocating for people to manually back end park using their own cameras and having a charge port on the back to support it.

I’m just saying Americans, in general….seem to really suck at it. Even with the option for it to be automatic.
