I'm in Ontario but run off of Quebec Hydro because of my location. At home I am at 0.141/kWh CAD but public chargers are at 0.60/kWh CAD. we pay a premium for on the go charging. That being said, I've had my Mach E for 10 months and have used public charging maybe 6 times.
Similar home rates here C$0.1172 (low) to 0.1408 (peak) /kWh.

A Shell level 3 has it at 0.245.

Yeah - I noticed that their charger locations are largely east coast US and the UK. I wonder what that business model is. The charger certainly worked as advertised (quick swipe-to-pay with my phone and then 55 kW rate of delivery). I'm hoping to use it so rarely that figuring out the app would be a waste of time.
I prefer Applegreen and am expert with the App?

Got loads of experience though with the high mileage day-trips I do.

Stangy has DCFC charged 331 times taking on board 9,708.24kWh and I find Applegreen are amongst the easiest to use and most widespread in recent months.

I haven’t had easy access to my home charger for the past few days, so I took my car to the EVgo charger nearby. 47.886 KWh cost $30.94. I know electricity is stupidly expensive in the Philadelphia area, but this seems a bit … excessive? Does this sound reasonable? Note that I am not a ā€œmemberā€ of any charging network because I rarely DCFC.

Oh really? I recently stopped at an EVgo in the Crosstown Plaza in Schenectady, NY where I loaded 57 kWh into my 2021 Mach e GT to the tune of $43.97. That works out to a bit more than $.77/KWh. Needless to say, I will never charge there again!

That sounds like a Pilot / Flying J for 69 cents, plus tax.

That's why checking prices ahead of time is necessary.

Do you know the prices in Germany? I have to pay $0.54 (with a contract). Without a contract, 77 cents and more are not uncommon. The worst thing I ever experienced was $1.24

Well, the Germans went on a crash program to shut down every single nuclear plant as quickly as possible, with no plans to replace that capacity (unless you count reliance on a brutal dictator as a viable backup plan). So, ask me again if I have a lot of sympathy for Germany?

It seems that most of PA has high rates, but it's always going to be much higher in urban areas.

Even my HOME electricity (about 20 miles NE of Pittsburgh) is 0.19/kWh. Between the high electricity, the new state EV tax (registration fee) and now a federal EV tax (another registration fee), I'm starting to wonder if it would be cheaper to go back to a gasoline car. (I'm sure that was the intention of the oil lobbies who pushed for all the registration fees.)
I had a talk with a PA rep about that registration tax, my suggestion was to use the odometer reading that every PA vehicle records at the yearly state inspection , he said that wouldn’t be fare to give people a very large bill every year. They aren’t interested in a fare tax, they just want to push back on EVs for their corporate masters.
Anyway, I just payed my registration for my F150 Lightning and there wasn’t a $200 fee added on.
Just hang in there and send a bitchy email to your state rep! You definitely won’t like going back to an ICE vehicle .

The government that decided on this nonsense was democratically elected. But not by me. Fortunately, it's over and we have a new government. But the nonsense remains and much of it is just a reaction to the broken world market.

Yes, I know Angie was democratically elected and I apologize if I implied anything different. Sadly, we did not learn from Germany’s experience and are now trying to do something not too dissimilar in end-effect.

First, I love the picture. Second, I actually don’t mind paying a ā€œreasonableā€ road use tax to make up for the fuel taxes I don’t pay. To be honest, I suspect if we were to go to an odometer based system, there would be too much cheating (As it is, look at what Tesla does with their odometers!) People would find ways to cheat the odometer reading and pay too little.

Mustang Mache 2021 delivered 1/28/22

Here in CT, my home electricity is a little under $0.09/kWh. Just bought my Mach-E this weekend, so I haven’t figured out details around peak or off peak times for that.

But more relevant to this thread: I stopped at the first rest stop between me and work, just to walk through the charging process for the first time, and the Applegreen charger was $0.59/kWh, delivering at 55kW. Applegreen says there’s a discount through the app, but they don’t specify, and the app appears to be universally reviled.
Hi Tip, How are at $0.09/Kwh in CT! I may have calculated wrong, but I am at $0.30/Kwh with Eversource here in CT. My utility bill is often over $500 (I drive a lot). My Mache has 94K on it.

You’re totally right. Base generation cost from Eversource is $.09 to $.11, but I didn’t take all the fees into account. My last electric bill is more like $.325/kWh with everything included (if I just divide the total kWh over the bill total). Chalk it up to me being a new EV owner and trusting Google instead of my own electric bill.

Unfortunately, Germany had a fair number of Boiling Water Reactors that were of the same era (1960s) as Fukushima. Technology has moved on and many of the issues with the old tech reactors are no longer problems. Hopefully, moving forward a bit of sanity (try not to laugh) can prevail everywhere in our desires to move from fossil fuels as much as possible.

I would point out that the German BWRs were not located in active earthquake zones or coastal areas prone to tsunamis. My complaint with Germany is not necessarily deciding to phase out those reactors; but the panicked way in which they did it, with no consideration to how they were going to replace that capacity. Of course, as I said, we’re barreling down a path to end up at the same result, just with different motivations. I’m surprised solar hasn’t been made illegal yet because ā€œthe panels are ugly and cause bird cancerā€ or something ?

The EV fee is coming separately, assuming you registered after April 1, the effective date of the legislation.
