When getting my car washed, we discovered small vein-like protrusions from the paint under with a windows. Sadly, the Ford dealer (and the body shop) have confirmed the aluminum doors are corroding. It will only get worse and the solution is to replace all 4 doors.

Anyone else heard of this?

It also sounds like this is a known issue for some brands, including Ford and McClaren.

That doesn't look like corrosion to me. It looks like impurities under the paint, similar to the door hem issue that people have been seeing. I'd get another opinion. 🤔🐩

Can you try taking another photo perpendicular to the area where you see the problem? So little of it is in focus in the photo above that I really can't tell what I'm looking at. But I agree with Steve - if they have this issue with the bottom of doors, it doesn't seem unlikely they's also have it with the area around the windows too.

It’s been to ford and the two top rebuild shops in the Seattle area. Thorough 1/2 hour inspections.
My hope was for a paint issue. Unfortunately that is how it looks when the issue is with the underlying aluminum (according to everyone).

Ford actually has a TSB for the same issue (I think it might be the regular mustang or explorer). What is unusual is for it to start at the top rather than the bottom.

I would prefer to do nothing, but I have to be conscious about watching it vs. the end of the warranty.

Is Ford racing to the bottom to compete with Chinese cars for the same quality? ;)

That buckling of the paint isn’t representative of how aluminum oxidizes, which typically is a visible change in the coloration of the surface (which anodizing takes advantage of, being a form of aluminum oxidation). The physical texture of the surface rarely changes unless a foreign substance is added. This paint buckling looks very similar to the door hem issue. See https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...m-24n05-door-hems-paint-sealant-issues.36128/ ??

I'm confused; the passenger doors on my 2021 are steel.
I just checked with a magnet. The doors, drip molding and rear quarter panel are all magnetic.

I like posting here because I get a wealth of information. I have passed the linked thread above with the TSB onto the body shop. I’m curious to see what they say. In the meantime, is there any consensus as to whether the doors are aluminum to begin with?

Isn't the corrosion warranty quite long?
Unfortunately I believe the corrosion warranty is only applicable for complete rust through resulting in a hole, and appears to exclude cosmetic and surface corrosion. In other words, it is worthless.

I'm going to say they're steel for two reasons:
1) Yes, a magnet is attracted to them. Hard to do that with aluminum.
2) I had a door dent and a hood dent. The PDR person had no problem with the door but said he couldn't do the hood because it's aluminum.

I can’t speak to YOUR vehicle’s doors, but I can assure you that MY vehicle’s doors are magnetic. Since most steel is magnetic, I’m reasonably sure my car doors are made of steel. If you want to confirm your vehicle, just do a magnet test.

Steel doors.

...and that looks like a paint issue, not corrosion.

There is a CSB for door hem paint issues. This may qualify.
Talk to Ford dealer(s) or Ford directly.
