Update on this damage. In talking with the Field Service Engineer today, I learned a few things:

You're not alone. I remembered that in the videos but hadn't seen it on Marlin's driver display. Of course, I haven't taken him out of Unbridled and my wife is stuck in Whisper.
I think they don't go over +19 because if you are setting it that high (and risking a reckless driving ticket), you probably don't care about the speed limit anyway. ;)
It can also be a hindrance, trapping GM into continuing to use it's in house technology when others have pivoted to something newer and better. Until auto companies change their mentality, they are unlikely to be as nimble as battery companies.
Agreed, charging status should be right there on the main screen. I've had trouble with DCFC stations shutting off mid-charge. It's great to just look and see if charging is going on. Under Manage EV it would be nice to get real stats on % and kWh charged and current charging rate.
