Let me gaze into my crystal ball:
The Ford Universal EV platform is for mass-market, cheap cars and trucks. It's LFP-only, 400V only and optimised for price to compete with all the cheap Chinese products.
Ford will make new SUVs based on this platform (Escape?), but not Mach-E.
Mustang Mach-E...
Hi Brian not AI (@Ford Motor Company) -- thanks for one of your promised deep-dives
It probably hasn't escaped your notice: there's a pretty big difference between what your engineers were targeting, and what your customers are actually experiencing. Or maybe there's not: we're just the vocal...
If you have aftermarket sway bars, it sounds like the sound they make when they're not fully lubricated, with the included silicon grease or the forum-recommended green grease. Might be something to check and a straightforward fix if so.
I think the most practical thing to do: contact a trusted local electrical contractor (electrician) and ask them to custom-make you an extension cable. (Not sure if that's accepted practice in your part of the world, but not out of the question where I am...)
Tell them you need it to be 100...
I'm an ICT guy who has sat through his share of change control meetings. When Ford says "We've optimized system memory to ensure your vehicle is ready for future updates", I hear "We've freed up some disk space".
Here's some examples of what Ford might have done, note that this is not the truth...
As an example: Here's a picture of a charger somewhere near me (random picture off Facebook -- and this is a CCS2 fast charger).
It's listed on the maps as "up to 160kW" but in reality for Mach-E you'd get 80kW. That's because the actual limit is 200A.
Follow up: Jim Farley (Ford CEO) was here in Aus recently (for the F1 Grand Prix) and also to test-drive the Ranger PHEV and some of the Chinese PHEV competition. (Because Australia doesn't have heavy tariffs, Ford has to compete with everybody... this is what he was investigating)
Some news...
The Ford video just released. Yup, it was about better efficiency to enable smaller batteries to lower cost.
Lots of cool graphics on aero; also things Ford has mentioned in the past: fewer parts (unicasting), simpler/lighter harnesses (moving to 48V), zonal software architecture.
NOT...
These BYD Shark trucks are on sale here in Australia. I've seen more than a few driving around.
We also have the Ranger PHEV on sale (yes, Ford makes it). Wouldn't call it an "EREV", it only has 50km electric range. I don't think Ford are selling many though.
Here's a comparison review for the...
A few weeks ago when Ford discontinued F-150 Lightning, they went out of their way to reassure us that their EV plans in general, and Mach-E in particular, have a future. And it might even sound credible.
If I were a Tesla driver, I'd be concerned for the future value of my car. If Tesla has...
Whilst you're down there, check the play on the ball joint on the end links, where they bolt onto the bar (and maybe the other ball joints where they bolt to the chassis). I'd be surprised if that was the culprit though. Agree with everyone else that something's just not bolted tight enough.
Hi Murray, it's likely that your Mach-E is due for some safety recalls, which is what the 5 hours of software updates will be for.
You can search https://www.vehiclerecallsafety.nzta.govt.nz/ for the details (type in "Mach-E") but in short the recalls are 25S65 (the 12V battery discharge issue...
This is how it already works for Mach-E for Type 2 cables, both AC and fast DC charging. The cable locks and unlocks in sync with the doors. Pretty sure I'm not imagining it, maybe our Europe friends can back me up on this!
