Consumer Reports' New Cars guide has a cover with the Mach E v Model Y comparison (see attached for scan of article). CR obviously has a preference for the Mach E, although neither car scores particularly high; the Model Y has a terrible score, primarily due to very poor reliability.

The main thing that hurts the Mach E is below-average predicted reliability, although that's still a premature score, as they have zero model years of data to substantiate that score.

Thanks for posting.
Reading it confirms my long ago decision to cancel my subscription—predicting reliability for a built from the ground-up EV based on ICE vehicles is a stretch. Sheesh.

Yes, but.... CR predictions of the reliability of other new models based on a manufacturer's prior reliability have proven to be fairly accurate. I agree that this Mach-E new model is more different from the past than other new models but it is still the same company with the same engineers, etc. that have produced lower reliability new model cars in the past. By the way, how reliable is the Mach-E Ford Pass software so far? How reliable have the OTA upgrades been? And, as you noted, this is a ground-up new design--lots of opportunity for reliability issues. All that said, I am personally quite happy with my Mach-E after eight months with it even though I do expect more reliability issues over the coming years than I have experienced with established model prior cars I have owned. I am okay with that.

Yep. For me, CR lost their credibility long ago.

They compared a generic Mustang Mach e against a generic Mustang coupe? Um, why? That has to be about the least informative comparison possible.

That wasn’t a direct comparison; the Mach E summary was just listed next to the coupe (manufacturers’ cars are listed in the order of manufacturer, make, and model). I suppose I should have cropped that page ;)

I only have two reliability concerns about this car.
1. The liquid cooling system seems horrifically over-complicated with a lot of potential leak points.
2. The brakes aren’t well “balanced” if that’s the right term. Park on any sort of hill and there can be a ton of rocking. Sometimes it lurches back fairly dramatically when parked uphill and that strain can’t be good long term.

Do car makers often produce a single, suddenly reliable vehicle, after years of not doing that? I think you won't go too wrong looking at the past to see the future in either of these brand's cases.

People get too defensive about their purchases.

Let me give you an actual reliability data point: 3K miles, 3 months, 3 trips to the dealer.

For sure it has that 1970’s rock & strain. Needs to be more refined.

I've had zero quality issues as well. My only trip to the dealership was a software update (PAAK). I have 10,300 miles on the car so far; the only thing I need to do is get the tires rotated.
