This one is bittersweet. It’s still an anniversary even if it’s with an Ex, isn’t it?
A year ago today, 3 weeks after buying my wife her Mach-E, I picked up my own from Shepard Brothers Ford in Canadaigua, NY. Brought them both home and let them get acquainted
I spent a ton of time and love with this car over the next 11 months.
I learned to detail and polish,
paint calipers,
lay vinyl,
and tint lights (though the headlight tint ended up being a no-go).
I swapped wheels and tires (something I’ve never done because I was never a “car guy” until this car)
played with EL Wire (which I didn’t even know was a thing before this)
installed a dashcam (with the help of the great tutorials on the forum), and added accessories like louvers and spoilers.
I had a lot of love for the car. Some great experiences and a few great photos.
I even loved my car enough that I made a Lego Version
But on March 1st, a GT-PE at MSRP fell into my lap and I had to say goodbye to the black and red. I spent a few days returning it to complete stock. Which unfortunately required wet sanding some ghosting of the vinyl that had settled into the clear coat.
And repolishing the clear coat.
But it ended up completely back to stock without a mark on it.
So 355 days, and 8850 miles) after I bought the car, I drove it to CarMax in Rochester and sold it. All the mods have been saved and will end up on the new car (or the wife’s car in the case of the wheels and tires). And between tax rebates. Incentives, and selling price; even accounting for taxes paid, I came out ahead after driving the car for a year. Crazy times we live in.
Most of you regulars on here went through this whole journey with me. And I thank you for that. It’s been fun sharing our passion for these cars, the good and the bad passions. I wanted to commemorate the black and red car, the First Striped Mach-E on the planet.
?Here’s to many more years of loving our cars and to seeing how wild I can get with the mods on the GT-PE?
Maybe the 2021 Mustang Mach-E needs to pay an homage to the 1971 (50 years earlier) Mustang Mach-1?
