Even though I don't own a TOPDON RLink J2534, I have looked into it and it's an American product that works on multiple brands of autos. Appears you need to make sure you load the right driver for Ford vehicles. It appears to be equivalent to a VCM 2 and Mongoose in speed...
I bought these for about $300 total and did it myself. https://www.ebay.com/itm/167314520528 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZPB55NM (used) and https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Alligator-Terminal-Disconnect-Inverter/dp/B09PBBQ1QY
Two day license for FDRS is $50 and that should be enough to get you...
Be careful with this one, FDRS recommends a VCM3 or better. I monitored the laptop and power supply the whole time because I was using a VCM2 and worried about bricking the IPMA.
I had an early model Emporia EVSE and after a MME OTA, I started getting Charge Fault errors randomly. Turned out that when the MME requested the Emporia to stop providing power, the Emporia randomly took longer than 3 seconds, or something close to that, to disconnect which caused the fault...
An EV charger outlet requires a GFCI breaker, which can cause nuisance tripping when used with an EV charger. Hardwiring avoids this issue so is the method recommended by almost all EV chargers.
Have you looked into this program? It may not be for you since you don't commute, but worth a look.
I have used this model multiple times and it has worked great during FDRS sessions on both my MME and Lightning.
I set output to 13.7 VDC with a multimeter before connecting to the battery.
It will charge the battery at this voltage but I wouldn't recommend using it as a "battery charger".
I park and charge both my MME & Lightning in the garage. Installed charger at front on wall between the 2 doors so I or a visitor could charge an EV outside if needed.
If the new administration imposes the 25% tariff on the Mach-E as they stated they would, then all bets are off in my view. Ford may just stop importing Mach-Es into the USA because they won't sell at that price point ($60k would become $75k). Same for Chevy Equinox EV. This will be a big win...
Don't forget to factor in oil changes, tune-ups, brakes, etc. that ICE cars require. Let alone all the time I save not waiting in gas lines or dealing with gas prices changing all the time. That's the reason I traded my truck in for a Lightning.
Most all gasoline is made in America and America produces more oil then we use. import tariffs will only impact gas prices coming from gulf coast refineries, that get their oil from OPEC because that’s what their refineries are design to refine. This will make prices higher not lower.
Received a text message from my dealer wanting to schedule a mobile visit to accomplish this CSP. I already updated all the modules with FDRS so didn't need this. I indicated I didn't fast charge so would wait until my regular scheduled service. He didn't respond. Guess Ford mobile service...
