We rarely take our MME on long trips. Couple of weeks ago we made a 220 mile round trip. Left with 100% charge with departure time set so battery and cabin were preconditioned. Got home with 25% charge left. The route was mostly 55 or 60 mph speed limit.
We have both the MME and a Prius Prime. If just driving around town the Prius has sufficient capacity so rarely fill it up. My record was 1,400 miles on 8 gallons of gas and a bunch of electrons.
On some trips we just take the dogs along. We have window covers from the Heatshield store that...
The only sound I miss in an ICE car is the wind when I was driving my Miata with the top down. Always been a small car kind of guy so never took a liking to V8s. Besides when you've driven a 4,000 HP diesel electric locomotive a V8 sounds kind of wimpy.
I know Toyotas can have different settings for the automatic lights. Requires updating via the OBD2 port with appropriate software.
Lights are recommended in long tunnels in the event of a power failure. You don't want to have the tunnels lights go off and not be able to see. This was...
Until we got access to Tesla superchargers I was quite reluctant to even consider a trip across WV in the MME. A bunch of the chargers in the the Charleston area are at car dealers which makes me concerned about access after hours. I think it's more doable now.
Just had to replace my 20 year old opener after the motor shaft sheared off. New one is Security+ 2.0 and it programmed easily with HomeLink in both the MME and Prius Prime. I can hit the button over 50 yards away and it opens so I don't have to wait.
My only problem with the HomeLink in...
it’s in the manual that the shaded area by the mirror is the only part of the windshield that RF signals to pass through. I had to mount the gate pass for our community there along with my EZ-Pass. They’ve worked fine there.
I put PZero AS +3 tires on my son’s Mazda 3 while I was keeping his car when he was on a carrier deployment. I really liked the change in ride and handling over his previous tires. Since then he has been very happy with them. When my MME tires need replacing they will he high on my list.
It can happen to other cars too. Many years ago my wife’s cousin stayed with us while he was between residences. There was an ice storm when he got home late (restaurant manager) and was parked behind my pickup on the street. After he came in my wife heard a noise outside and his car had slid...
Taller thinner tires are also better in snow & ice. If I replaced my 20” rims with 18” I would still have the 20s for a high performance tire for autocross or other fun.
Increasing the rim diameter will likely result in a harsher ride due to the reduced sidewall height. My GT has the factory 20" rims and it has a very rough ride on bad pavement or speed bumps.
Looks like you were skiing at Wintergreen? I used to live there. As long as the charger isn't sitting in water it should be fine. You don't want to leave the mountain with a full charge. regenerative charging coming down will put a lot of power back in. Easily 10% or more.
I'm to sure about the Ford charger but I have a 3rd party charger for my Prius Prime that can run off either 120v or 240v. The Prius limits the charge current to 12 amps max on either circuit. It takes just under 5 hours to fully charge at 120v and just over 2 at 240v. Charge rate is the same...
Not an unpopular opinion. We have hammocks in each car. They stay in most of the time since it's usually the dogs in the back seat. Takes all of 30 seconds to remove it for people to ride, less if it's just one person. We have harnesses for the dogs that clip into the seat belts. The...
Went to Discount Tire near me to get tires for my son's car while he was on deployment. Knew which tires I wanted and the price from them was the same as Tire Rack. Add in mounting fees, etc but I would have to pay them if I ordered from TR.
I've bought many, many tires from Tire Rack over...
I've used Blizzak on previous vehicles. Michelin and Pirelli also make good winter tires. I highly recommend buying a set of wheels and tires so you can swap them out easily. I always used Tire Rack for them. You might consider dropping to a smaller diameter so the sidewall is taller which...
