Do we absolutely need a wall charger at home?

It appears the round ground connector is probably on the top (assuming you want the mobile charger hanging down). https://www.ford.com/powertrains/battery-electric-vehicles/ https://electrek.co/2019/11/18/ford-mustang-mach-e-home-charging-on-par-with-tesla/ Note however that picture in the...

Is the Mach-E really 7 years behind Tesla?

Not at all. Because 90% of an electric vehicle is still the vehicle.

VW ID.4 to get three years of free EA Charging

Or the Mach-E is doing well enough that Ford doesn't have to resort to throwing in a ton of free charging to get people to buy it.

Do we absolutely need a wall charger at home?

Thus "short as possible", as I said.

    Tesla's battery day

True, we'll have to wait and see. But it's gonna be hard living up to the hype. I'm betting the 'under'. 😉

    Tesla's battery day

Yep. The first video of theirs I watched last year wasn't too bad. But then I watched a few more and couldn't even get all the way through. That one where they were on stage as guests made em look like loons. Way too "off the deep end" for me.

NYT Article: Electric Car Age dawning sooner than expected

I do wonder how much drag the side mirrors create? If significant, that's one the NHTSA needs to get their butts in gear to approve (camera mirrors). The little quirks they initially found should be easily fixable...

Update on Mach-E launch progress from engineering friends in Mexico

I always think of Mike Rowe as the voice of Ford, but I guess they ended that a few years back.

NYT Article: Electric Car Age dawning sooner than expected

Ya got me there. I do like that better. The windows on the Hummer start too high and are too short. Proportions look wrong. Great blue on the Ford too. Really wish they offered that in the Mach-E. I probably would have picked that, even over the red.

NYT Article: Electric Car Age dawning sooner than expected

True. The new one looks pretty cool (in concept, at least).

NYT Article: Electric Car Age dawning sooner than expected

That would be a real shame, but yeah, I suspect many of the early BEVs will look that way until batteries get to the next level and can handle it as well as ICE. But right now, they need extra help to close that gap. Ideally, nextgen battery tech will be able to power an Explorer or Suburban...

Update on Mach-E launch progress from engineering friends in Mexico

The design doesn't do much for me. Too much of a sedan. If I were to go for a Volvo (or Volvo offshoot), it would be the XC40 Recharge. That was my 2nd choice to the Mach-E. The Polestar 2 is only 58" tall. Too short for my tastes.

Update on Mach-E launch progress from engineering friends in Mexico

That's good IF they have many to sell that aren't already reserved/ordered. Depending on who we believe, they may not. In which case advertising now could just be souring potential new customers.

Ford is opening up some more First Edition Mach-E orders

Once it's in WEBDO, it's in the same spot that my Premium is if I'd never ordered a 2nd Machdrop FE. Meaning, I don't have a VIN# for the Premium either, so it's no different. But presumably your point is that since I have 2 orders now, might as well take advantage of that and milk it as far...

Tesla model 3 Performance has 80.5kWh battery pack, 250kW charging capabilities but takes 40 minutes to charge?

That would help mitigate one leg of the 3-leg stool that's a big challenge for BEV road trips: (a) Charger coverage/availability (b) Sloooow refueling (c) Seriously degraded range at high speed where people usually do road trips I think I've heard it posted somewhere here that it's more than...

Ford is opening up some more First Edition Mach-E orders

Once it's confirmed in WEBDO, I feel OK about cancelling my Premium order (that's WEBDO too). Although I did quietly float the idea to my dealer that "As long as it eventually gets cancelled, I don't care when, in case you wanted to wait until the last minute so you have one on the lot to...

    Mach-E resale value

It will be interesting to what the next generation of cells will be, and whether they will be backward compatable for upgrade/replacement. Just as important as wiring/BMS/etc is physical size. It could very well be that the most efficient size/shape of next-gen batteries won't fit in the same...

NYT Article: Electric Car Age dawning sooner than expected

Pretty well-balanced article. Purchase price-parity with ICE would be a huge deal. Although it's not the only obstacle to widespread BEV sales. Charging time needs to shrink significantly, range at high speed grow significantly, and apartment/condo L2 chargers installed widely. And larger...

NYT Article: Electric Car Age dawning sooner than expected

I've pointed to that before too, especially as the reason why Teslas (except the Roadster and truck) are all so boring and look the same. The low catfish front and low-slope Prius rear are (sadly) probably gonna have to become more common if people want more range. And that will probably be a...

The truth about Electrify America's progress and Traveling with the Mach E

It's not the cost alone, it's the cost combined with the immense foot traffic. 12 gas pumps probably generate 50-100 unique customers an hour. A few chargers maybe 3-4 per hour after BEVs become more commonplace? (Maybe 3-4 per day now?) There's a lot to factor in. But in general, chargers...
