What I know is the following:
V2 Superchargers support only the old Tesla protocol using the CAN.
V3 Superchargers support both the old Tesla protocol and the CCS protocol.
My 2018 is not compatible with the CCS protocol and will require a retrofit to be able to use the Tesla CCS to NACS...
Tesla V3 and upcoming V4 supercharger cables are liquid cooled, V2 are not. Not sure if the upcoming next gen Ford EV's with NACS ports will be able to use V2 as well as V3 and V4 but the NACS to CCS1 adapter will only be able to use the V3 (and presumably V4) sites according to Ford's press...
I have both a Mach-E and Model 3 so a good basis for comparison.
2018 Model 3, RWD, Long Range
2021 Mach-E, AWD, Extended Range.
1. Will slower charging be more noticeable in the future, probably, but not so much that it will really matter, other than trying to beat the EV Cannonball...
Actually, the CCS1 to NACS adapter only became available to Tesla owners in 2022 and it is an optional accessory. Some older Tesla's, including my 2018 Model 3, will need a retrofit to be able to use it.
Tesla has included a J1772 to NACS adapter for years with the cars for L1 and L2 charging.
I have had my TeslaTap for over 2 years to charge the MME on my second gen Tesla Wall Connector. I never have had an issue with it charging the car. I wait 30 seconds after connecting the Wall Connector to the adapter before plugging in. I have forget 1 or 2 times and not had an issue, but...
Yes, the same issues with using the Magic Dock will still occur with using the provided adapter, parking close enough for cable to reach and potentially blocking an adjacent spot from a Tesla being able to use it. The V4 Superchargers should eliminate most of these issues with a centered...
I noticed this in the press release from Ford:
A Tesla-developed adapter will provide Ford F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E and E-Transit vehicles fitted with the Combined Charging System (CCS) port access to Tesla’s V3 Superchargers. Ford will equip future EVs with the NACS charge port...
I read about this on one of the Tesla forums. While I think electric vehicles should pay something to contribute for highway/road maintenance and construction, what is proposed is way higher than most would pay in a similar sized ICE vehicle. The current gasoline tax in Texas is $0.20 per...
Did you use the Tesla Wall Connector on another vehicle before the Mach-E, and if so, did it charge at expected speeds? All generations of Tesla Wall Connectors allow settings to be changed to vary the amp output up to the maximum (48 amps on the Gen 2 and Gen3, some Gen 1 allowed up to 80)...
I agree with the others, an adapter will work fine. I use my existing Tesla Wall Connector with the Mach-E using a Tesla Tap adapter. I have to take the adapter on and off since I share the Wall Connector with my Model 3.
So far no issues in nearly 2 years of sharing. Just make sure you have...
Yes, the 60 amp would work fine since the car will only request 48 amps from the EVSE.
You must of got one of the first generation Tesla Wall Connectors since they have only have 60 amp max on the second and now third generation ones.
Both my Tesla Model 3 and MME share my Tesla Wall Connector, using an 80-amp Tesla Tap for the MME. I have had no issues at all and am able to use full 48-amp capability of the EVSE with both cars. If you really want separate EVSEs, another Tesla Wall Connector of the same generation can be...
You might want to get a third party mobile EVSE that supports plugging into 14-30 and 10-30 outlets if you are planning to use 240V in friends/family garage. Most if not all electric dryer outlets are 30 amp (10-30 will be in older homes before 14-30 became a code requirement). There are...
One more thing I do, is once a month, I test my backup door and start codes on the screen to validate they still work. Just a peace of mind so if I ever need to use them when away from the house and no fob, I can trust I can get the car to drive home.
As seen in Out of Spec video, the towel is wrung of excess water first, then wrapped around handle with some small amount distance from the actual port on the car. Towel is wrapped after Tesla handle is inserted and charging started is signaled. No water ever gets in port from towel. More of...
Adding my advice,
1. Download the Windy app on phone and use to know if you will encounter some head or cross winds between where you are charging and next destination, you may want to charge a little higher to account for this, although with a SR, you will probably be charging fairly high on...
Another possibility is if these are Gen 3 Tesla Destination Connectors / Wall Connectors. They can be set up to work for only Tesla vehicles by a switch. The first and second generations don't have this capability. I am not sure if this new feature is on by default or not for new units from...
Buc-ee's has signed an agreement with Tesla to install Superchargers's at the following locations:
Some of the permits to install have started as noted on Tesla owner forums. While these are very tourist trap shopping, they are open 24 hours, have big and clean restrooms and a large selection...
