A minor data point on a chip hold order: I received a message in FordPass app that my activation request was denied. The optimist in me reads that as my car was handled/driven somewhere that day. Instead of languishing in a dusty soccer field.
I'd welcome an email with some compensation for the FNM (and don't get started about how chip shortages are widespread and well-known: A sudden three month additional delay indicates a sudden interruption of chip production (think earthquake at foundry--but no such event in the chip industry...
I'm in the same boat, settled Bolt Lemon Law claim with GM in late December and at that time was expecting Mach-E delivery in late February. Looking at Kia EV6. Next step is checking out how fun (or not) they drive. Polestar is missing cargo capacity in my shopping list.
Cool! Of course the usual questions:
What did you order? (including model year)
When did you order?
Whereabouts are you located?
From trackers: Built date? Ship date? ETA date?
Auto manufacturers tend to closely guard their supply chain details, to not give their competitors advantages in pursuing their own supply chain performance. For example, in the wake of the Toshiba chip plant in southern Japan shutting down after suffering damage in an earthquake on January...
Do call, but I've seen numerous examples in the dealer community here in southern Florida in which they list Mach-Es in which a VIN has been generated, i.e. this includes as you know cars in chip hold and not yet shipped. Check ford.com inventory for your dealer; at ford.com the listings will...
Regarding the Cuautitlán plant shutdown next week: Looks like they ran out of soccer fields for storage of chip hold cars. Including mine, the CalRt1 parked in the penalty area.
Based on context and the SEC reports I've looked at, Gross Stock Units (a uniquely Ford term, BTW) is simply inventory available for sale. It would be nice to know the more exact definition, given the way ownership of inventory is defined by the automotive industry.
Those 3,100 stock units are...
Diverting chips to Lightning production? Only speculation. But trade press covering production of electronic components of the classes typically used in automobiles, in countries like Malaysia and Vietnam, shows steady production for the past several weeks (i.e. no disruptions).
Edit: A Toshiba...
I called Ford Marketing and here in Florida no such certificate/offer. But I did learn something interesting for folks like me who had MY21 order rolled by Ford to MY22. Remember the $750 discount detailed in Ford's order roll email (I received mine on 10-1-21)? Even though our orders qualified...
That just means that certain systems were installed (usually very close to the day the motorcraft status shows modules installed). I've been at that point since mid-January. And on chip hold, with delivery estimate 5-27-2022.
All I would say at this point is that Ford, in 2021 when there was a six week slippage due to chip delays, emailed everyone with an affected order to advise an extra 250kw of free charging in compensation. Let's see what they offer those of us affected by this three month slippage.
