But the closest one is still 32 Miles away, I'm not really interested in driving clear across the state for a charge.

It may be that they want to make sure they have a roof in stock before they remove the old one, just in case it breaks during removal.
They wouldn't want you to be stuck waiting a month for a replacement roof.
If it comes out clean, then they'll just reuse the old roof.
