My first DIY conversion was in 2008.... a little Suzuki Swift (geo metro), which worked, but was not 'attractive'. This eMiata is way more fun to drive, but pretty limited range because there's not a lot of room for batteries to work with in a car designed for ICE, gas tank, exhaust system, etc...
