Oh yeah, I've always thought their stock valuation was crazy high. Still is. I expect it'll come down to earth.
But at the same time, they'd still be wildly successful even with 1/2 the market cap (which would still be 5x bigger than Ford's, for instance). They were THAT far in front.
The DCFC...
Yep, in terms of ALL vehicles (not just EVs), Ford, GM, VW, Toyota, etc all sell a lot more than Tesla still. Their growth rates have been phenomenal over the last decade though. As well as their cost structure/margins per EV. That's a lot of what the market has been betting on. Especially...
Let's not go overboard. Tesla is still doing amazingly. Far and away the largest market cap of any automaker, at over $500B. Sure, it's down from the $1T it used to be, but most of us knew that was wildly exaggerated and couldn't last. Ford market cap is $50B, to put this in perspective. 1/10th...
It's not crazy at 68,000 for the R2. It's kinda crazy at 2 million for the CT though as being 2 millionth in line will never realistically happen. Although as I said, I think a big chunk of those aren't really for the purpose of buying a CT, they're just trying to pump the stock.
Caveat emptor. If people were crazy enough to fork over $100 (refundable) when the reservations (supposedly) reached into the millions, that's on them.
Although I've always suspected in Tesla's case, a huge share of those are from their loyal followers/investors trying to jack up the stock...
If it were for nothing, then yeah, maybe someone could sue for fraudulent misrepresentation. But it's usually not for nothing. Just like with the Mach-E. It's earnest money to hold a place in line to help confirm the potential buyer likely has legitimate interest in buying. If there's no...
Good luck. I think when the real one comes out it's gonna look a whole lot different that. Notice they just took a mirror image of the 48A L2 cable for that display. And that they don't list a power rating or a weight yet. Heck they don't even have a real length yet (just "6-9 feet"). The...
Someone said RJ alluded to that in an interview. While surely true to some degree, I seriously doubt most SCs will be V4 by even 2027. Not even sure most will be V4 by 2030.
It actually exacerbates the V3 problem. That's the point. The R2 charge port is right-rear. Just like the Mach-E, it's in the opposing corner for reaching V3s.
Yeah, that's standard curbside EVSE. Not sure how much of that we'll see installed in the US, but some in some places. Gets pricey to build/install.
The UK model builds in the EVSEs and then drivers use their own cords to plug in.
That's likely to be a regular drag on the used EV market... concern about battery health and longevity.
People are concerned about the state of used ICE powertrains too, but usually a problem there isn't an $18,000 full replacement like it can be for an EV. Often it's just a cheaper repair...
Ah, so one of those trees planted on the street-side edge of the sidewalk. Got it. Yeah that's pretty much like a real street-side EVSE built on the curb. Uncommon, but I've seen some older urban areas do that.
Traipsing electrical cords across sidewalks is not a viable solution. Municipalities would likely start outlawing that practice if it became a thing (might already be illegal).
Curb chargers are always L2 though, not DCFC. They always have long cables (18-25 feet). They have no problem reaching.
Yeah, they hang out a foot or so but no more than a truck mirror. Minor issue IMO. Frankly, I don't even see street charging as becoming a major thing in North America...
I get putting it in the rear to cut wiring costs. I prefer the front but could live with the rear.
But if you're gonna put it in the rear, just put it left-rear. Seems like cabling would be the same either way. Just flip it.
Probably makes sense. Like all automakers (and everyone else), costs have soared for everything the last few years. They had to roll back their big spending plans. They can save over $2B producing at the existing Illinois plant initially and try to get the company over the hump first...
