HISTORY, STORY, EXPERIENCE, COMMENTS
completed conversion 2012.... drive 200-300 miles/mo around town. conversion gallery at envirokarma.org

Comments

My first DIY conversion was in 2008.... a little Suzuki Swift (geo metro), which worked, but was not 'attractive'. This eMiata is way more fun to drive, but pretty limited range because there's not a lot of room for batteries to work with in a car designed for ICE, gas tank, exhaust system, etc.

The eMiata cost about $20k in total, including the 'rolling chassis' I got for $4k. Batteries were about $8k, DC motor+ controller about $2500 which about half what a comparible AC motor/controller would be. Motor mount, transmission adaptor are semi-custom fabricated 'off-the-shelf' from various sources.
