At this rate, Ford will hit 200,000 EVs by July and Federal tax rebate will be gone by September.

Actually, if they hit it in July, the full credit will still hold until December (the quarter after the 200,000 is hit). If they hit it in June, then yes it would be gone by September.

It would be great if Ford watched deliveries and made sure that #200,000 was delivered after July 1st to provide customers one more full quarter of tax credits. I ordered end of March, hoping to get my GT by December.

Sorry, you are completely mistaken after the word "and". Federal tax credit amount will remain at $7500 for the quarter that Ford reaches the 200,000 US sales threshold, and for one quarter after. So, if they reach this cap in 2022Q3, the full tax credit will apply to MME US purchases until 1 Jan 2023. Then the tax credit amount is cut in half, $3750 for two quarters (1 Jan to June 30, 2023). Then, it's cut in half again $1875 for two more quarters, e.g 1 July to 31 Dec 2023.

Is this correct interpretation?
Jan thru May YTD US sales are 15,718 MME, while for this time period total MME production is 29,107. This probably means that about half of MME production is NOT sold in the US, i.e. they go to Europe, Canada, etc. It couldn't mean that nearly half of MME production is still in the process of being delivered to the potential buyer.... could it?

Pretty easy to have a record sales month when you put a good chunk of January-Mach cars on chip hold in Mexico and deliver them all at once in May!

It would be great if Ford watched deliveries and made sure that #200,000 was delivered after July 1st to provide customers one more full quarter of tax credits. I ordered end of March, hoping to get my GT by December.
I don't think folks have to worry about the 200k getting hit in June-- it's going to be hit comfortably in Q3, meaning anybody who takes delivery by December 31st is going to be fine for the full credit. Hopefully that is virtually all of the 22's. It's convenient that that will happen right at a MY transition, so most (if not all) 23's will not get the full credit.

Here's the data behind my confidence:
Through 2021, Ford had sold 159,588 tax credit-eligible EV's (Source: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/irc-30d-plug-in-electric-drive-motor-vehicle-credit-quarterly-sales)
From January-May 2022, Ford has sold:
-15,718 Mach-E's
-2,449 E-Transits
-201 Lightnings
(source-- Ford May sales press release)
That's a total of 177,956 tax credit-eligible vehicles.
PLUS we have to acknowledge that Ford has sold an unknown number of Ford Escape PHEV's and Lincoln PHEV's which are also eligible for the credit. Should we guess 5k? That would put Ford at about 183,000. I don't think Ford is selling 17k EV's this month.

If anybody knows of exact numbers for the Escape PHEV and Lincoln PHEV's I am happy to update this calculation.

I think it's a mix of both, but primarily the non-US factor.

Based on last years %, it doesn't seem like Ford will meet 200k sales by end of the year. Being aggressive and saying 75% of production was sold in NA, it seems like they still won't meet 200K till Q3. Edit ** i didn't include other models but it seems like those numbers are small**

Not sure why IRS can't add but their quarterly # added together does not match to 2021 cumulative #.

All Ford has to do to delay hitting the 200,000 threshold of US sales is to divert more of its EV production to NON-US sales (or just hold them) this month. Don't know why they would do that, since Fed tax credit was/is an incentive and they've got an overfull MME production schedule for 2022MY, and feeling no need to advertise MME to boost sales. So, hitting the threshold of 200,000 US EV sales in 2022Q2 would shorten the waning tax credit by just one quarter (last one in 2023, when it would be 100% gone). This could slightly reduce the affect of the tax credit on the 2023MY Ford EVs including the MME. Oh well, this speculation from a disgruntled wannabe MME owner.

Question about the tax credit: I'm due to get the Mach-E in July. Is there a filing I need to do ASAP once I get the Mach-E to secure the tax credit?

That's not how that works.

No, you just file it during tax return. You put in VIN number and date registered to your name.
