We just finished a 3,380 mile, 36 charge stop trip from Mission, TX to Milwaukee, WI and then to Ludlow Falls (Dayton), OH, Franklin (Nashville), TN and back to Mission in our Mach-e Premier that we purchased March 2021. Once we were north of the charge-station barren south Texas (San Antonio) things went fairly well. Most of the charge stations we used were Electrify America at Walmart Super Centers. A couple of ChargePoint stations were used.

In Oklahoma, you are forced to used Francis Electric charge stations which never have all the pumps working and the working pumps are well below rated capacity. But no choice

We plan our trip to be safe on range, so our planned arrival SOC is never less than 20% and we usually charge to 80+% before leaving. Twice we left before 80% because the pump was so low, we would have been there forever.

We used A Better Route Planner as the basic tool for planning the route. Then we used PlugShare to find the actual addresses of the charge stations for the Ford Navigation system.

In Eureka, MO we were going to charge at Schnucks, but the pumps were not operational yet.

On our way from Ludlow Falls, OH we were supposed to charge at the Walmart in Hillview, KY only to find the EA pumps fenced off because the parking lot was being repaved. We found a Harley Davidson with a ChargePoint charger as backup.

We finally used the 500 kWh we first received from Ford. After the Ford kWhs were used up, we started using the EA App for the EA pumps. Not sure if the rate is better with the EA app or with the FordPass app, or equal.

Unfortunately, we did not record our exact charges and Ford does a crummy job of what is used with the FordPass app. EA does a much better job.

Our charge per kWh run from $0.24 to $0.43. Our running rate went from 2.5 mi/kWh at 75 to 3.8 with milder driving. Figuring rough averages of 3.1mi/kWh, $0.32/kWh came out to about $349 for the trip. ($189 with the Ford 500 kWhs). At 25 mpg and $4.75/gallon, the trip would have been $652.

Cool Trip. It sounds like overall a good experience.

I hope calling chargers "pumps" catches on. I like that.

Pumps make more sense. The charger is in the car. The unit you connect to delivers electricity, like a pump.

We saw a few interesting cars along the way. Two Polestars 2s, a pair of Audis, two Lucids, a Rivian truck, a pair of Nissan ARIYA (2023) with blackout badging on a test run, and an EV Jaguar set up as a self-driving test car with all the rotating sensors on the roof, fenders and trunk. The driver said she was indirectly connected to Google. We do not see many EVs in South Texas.
