FordPass does initially have the kWh data and then it disappears. After charging, at the bottom of the FordPass app, select charging details. It will show time on charger, distance added, and how much energy in kWh. I usually take a screenshot of this, because once you leave this page and go back to it, the kWh data will be gone

I just finished charging the EV using JuiceBox. JuiceBox says I used. 40.7 kWh but FordPass says I used 35 kWh. I tend to believe JuiceBox but donā€™t understand why they are different.

Nothings going to be cheaper than buying a 20k car that gets 30+ mpg and running it into the ground.
Not necessarily true. Depends on how many miles in the ground is, along with major parts that need replacing. Assuming no major replacements, my $25,000 Ford Focus from 2012 would become more expensive at 190,000 miles compared my $55,000 Mach-E. This is factoring in purchase price, gas/electricity, oil changes (Focus), tires, brakes, shocks, and air filters.

So the big question to me, is how many miles with I get in the Mach-E before it needs replacing. If Ford figures out a battery recycling and replacement scheme that's not cost prohibitive for us, then the math will become HUGELY better for the Mach-E.

Juicebox sees total power use including losses due to the inverter. Fordpass reports kWh into the battery only. Should always be about 10% loss.

That said, my utility is charging me for the 40.7 kWh, right?

Yep! Thatā€™s why you want a Smart EVSE like that to track it. I used a OpenEVSE and simply track my odometer and the lifetime kWh counter every month in a spreadsheet.

First, FordPass rounds. So you could have used 34.51kW or 35.44kW.

Second, there is a loss between the house and the car. Using your numbers, you have a 14% loss. If you used 35.44, you'd have a 12.9% loss.

Lastly, if you miss the kWh in FordPass, you have to rely on subtracting percentages and then multiplying by the battery size, so there's rounding and such. I.E. X% of battery to start, Y% to finish, equals Z% x battery size.

I use 12% loss for my JB charger.

That is the big question, at what point is an EV just worth scrap metal. I think itā€™s fair to say that currently most people would be uneasy buying an EV with 100k miles on it. In all fairness I wouldnā€™t buy a gas car with 100k miles either.

First, check with your utility company to see if they provide discounted chargers, or a rebate if you buy certain brands/models.

Intelligent EVSEs, such as the Chargepoint Homeflex or the JuiceBox, provide apps and data that you can download (JuiceBox does) and analyze all day long.

I have a JB 48 hardwired and am very happy with it.
RickMachEā€˜s advice is worth checking out. In Wisconsin my off peak plan reduces my cost/kWh from $.12 to $.0675 and in Minnesota my sonā€™s girlfriend reduced her cost from $.12 to $.04.

Imagine paying 10 cents per kWh. My god.
That is ONLY the supplier charge with delivery and other fees it will be closer to 20 cents through November. Sorry if I was not clear about that.

Here in Virginia, thanks to a 2009 state gov't program coupled with the major utility here, I have a free, state-provided 2d EV-dedicated electrical meter (we had to pay for the hard-wired EVSE and for a dedicated new line) and my EV charging rate cost at "super-off-peak" is 5.3... at "off-peak" it's 7.9 and at "on-peak" it's 17.something. My regular house meter rate cost is 11.3 or something similar. The EV meter's "super-off-peak" rate is 1 a.m. thru 5 a.m. The "off-peak" rate is 11 p.m. - 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. thru 6 a.m. The "on-peak" rate is 6 a.m. thru 11 p.m.

The utility came and inspected the new line to make sure it leads only & exclusively to a hard-wired EVSE before they installed the 2d (EV) meter.

This 2009 dedicated EV free meter home program was a great deal and took us thru 3 plug-in hybrids and now 2 pure EVs incl. the Mach-E.

I just need to one day upgrade the 2010-era 16-amp hardwired EVSE to a 40- or 48-amp EVSE even though so far, the super-off-peak times are sufficient for me. Now, when Sonny Boy shows up with his Audi E-Tron...

At time of installation, I demanded a 6-gauge line to future-proof the house despite the electrician's grumbling about overkill, and I'm very glad I did that.
