Mach-E

The 2021 Mach-E was awarded the IIHS Top Safety Pick, the second highest rating given by the organization.

Click here to read the full IIHS safety review.

To receive the Top Safety Pick rating, a vehicle must achieve a "good" grade in six separate IIHS crash tests: driver- and passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. A vehicle's headlights must also be rated "good" or "acceptable," and its front crash-prevention technology must work in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian scenarios and be rated either "advanced" or "superior."

While the Mach-E achieved a "good" score in each of the crashworthiness tests (videos below), its headlights -- specifically in the Select and California Route 1 models, are what held it back from earning the Top Safety Pick Plus score (the highest rating). The vehicle's LED projector lamps that are available on Premium, GT and First Edition models are rated "good," while the LED reflector assemblies offered on the Select and California Route 1 models are only "marginal," providing inadequate illumination on some curves, at least according to IIHS.

After seeing 3 Grabber Blue wrecks, I was beginning to think only Grabber Blue Mach Es were going to get in wrecks. Now I have seen a white, black and sadly, an Infinite Blue.

Thanks for sharing. Simply aced it all except the top Latch anchors for the Premium MME. Anybody with the actual car have a photo of what those could be that can be mistaken for a latch?

From the website :
Tether anchor
Lower anchors
easy-to-find location
other hardware could be confused for anchor
not too deep in seat
not too much force needed to attach
easy to maneuver around anchors

After seeing the MME's emergency responder's guide (posted elsewhere on this forum) and how much high strength steel there is around the cabin I'm not surprised at these good results. In the small offset test the airbags did especially well at keeping the driver's head away from the A pillar. That is a weak spot in many other car tests.

Unfortunately all of those would be 100% totaled with all that damage.
I was impressed by the lack of deflection in the body. After the GT version comes out there should be plenty of donor cars for good used parts. I get dibs on the first salvage battery pack, OK?

Hope we get to see some videos of the accident avoidance tests. The Mach E has a pretty impressive stopping distance for its weight.

Latch = Lower Anchors and Tether for CHildren.
The "hooks" or steel loops which are used to secure child seats, back underneath where the back and bottom of the rear seats meet. And there is one for the top tether on the rear of the back seats... I believe.

Great news Ford!!!! Great news!!!

Most likely the tie down anchors by the lift gate were the culprit. Looks like this could be solved by adding a contrasting label on the seat backs near the actual anchor.

From IIHS:

Confusing hardware. The area where the tether anchor is found doesn't have any other hardware that could be confused for the tether anchor. If other hardware is present, then the tether anchor must have a contrasting label located within 3 inches of it.
