I think we have the same dealer in Alexandria. Sheehy? Did he say anything about the second $500 being refundable?
Ya, Sheehy in Springfield. He said the $500 would be forfeited if ordered and then I decided I didn’t want the car.

Unless you really need the car ASAP or you ordered a FE, you could just wait until the dealer gets a demo car for you to drive before placing an order. That's what I'm doing; you might end up not getting one until next summer but at least they can't screw you out of your money if the car doesn't perform as expected or has awful seats or something. Even better, you should start to see real world reviews and performance/efficiency.

That's what I'm doing because the car is a want rather than a need, and I want to know the actual specs and all the costs (including insurance rates, lease rates, etc) before I buy. As Reagan said: "Trust but verify".

Pretty much the same for me.... may have to loose the FE and have to get a premium, but will also save $1200 (paint option or would be $1600). I figure the specs and costs are close enough that it's unlikely to make a difference (and probably more likely to improve than worsen anyways). However, comfort getting in and out and sitting are a need as my wife and I are not getting any younger and some cars are too low or other issues. Comfort is too subject and and hard for me to tell from spec sheets.

I do hope dealer units come in before the cut-off for FE reservation, but I'm prepared to walk away and order later (or pick some other EV next year).

Thanks, pulled the trigger and got the MCOA membership. Two key factors for all interested, X-Plan PIN generation must be done manually after joining and you must be a member for 60 days for the X-Plan discount to be utilized. Wish I knew this earlier.
I joined two days ago. I have my Member# and Xplan PIN. If you did the digital you should have received an email with your Member #. Login and goto Membership/Xplan Pricing. You will get a Partner Code. Copy that and follow the Link to get your XPlan PIN#.

Koons Ford in Silver Spring said no ADM, A-Z plans accepted, deposit refundable. You can call Ford and change your dealer. I'll be glad to give you the Mach E specialist's contact info. I already posted it on the No ADM thread.

This morning (24 June), I received a call from the sales manager at my local dealer in VA. He told me I could login to the Ford website on the 26th and confirm my order. He added the $500 reservation fee would be returned and I would be asked for another $500 order fee.
So whay the heck can't they just sit with and transfer what they already have? Inconvenience the customer instead of Ford and the Dealer? Sheesh...

Keep in mind, there are a lot of 100 year old laws designed to prevent car makers from selling directly to customers; requiring by law that they go through a dealership. It is possible that Ford is not allowed to transfer your money to the dealer because of these terrible, outdated laws in the United States that are still on the books in many of the states.

Ford is really tip-toeing very carefully with the online order process, to try and compete the best they legally can with Tesla while also not getting hammered with lawsuits.

Because every dealer is going to want something different. I think it is best to just keep a clean seperatation. That way money doesn't get lost, etc.

Was told up to 10 days depending on your bank. I have read that people that have canceled already received back within 3 days.

My understanding was that the dealers could collect any amount they want for the order deposit. $0 to $X. Ford recommended $500 but that it was up to the dealer.

Last night in conversation with my dealer, they said the $500 would be fine. Now . . . it will be interesting if that shows up when I go to place the order online.

Also my understanding, and also that it's up to the dealer whether the $500 is refundable and, if so, up to what point. So make sure to clarify that at the time dealer asks for a deposit.
