NO you are not nuts. I will order a 2022 and simply wait until next year to get.my 2022. My dealership actually offered to order me a 2022 GT . They will simply take my current 21 and charge above sticker price.

I think it's wiser to just see what happens to those 2021 orders instead of straight cancelling it. I think recent orders aren't even coming till Feb-Mar or even later so they could all be 2022s (this is all my guess) since once the production line for 2021 stops, I don't think they will keep making 2021s into Feb of next year when they are already making 2022s.

Placing a new 2022 makes sense though so I'm probably going to do the same.

I ordered a 21 MME premium RWD on 6/15 and just got the production week of 11/15. I'm guessing the car will arrive in Jan as shipping has been taking awhile. I'm thinking of ordering a 22 on Monday or Tuesday if the price is not much more. I'm also hoping for more colors and improvements. I'll keep with the 2021 if the 2022 price is crazy and there are not a lot more features and enhancements.

Pointing you back to

According to this, production of 2021 models will take place through most of November. On November 29, production of 2022 models will commence. Production of 2021 models will have ceased prior to the change-over to 2022 models. The last of the 2021 models will probably be delivered into February or March of 2022 but they will all be completed before the end of 2021 as required by law, so they won’t be making 2021s into February of 2022.

Yes, I'm familiar with this post (why 2021s won't be made after 2022s are started). My post was more about what will happen to 2021 orders if they aren't even scheduled for production anymore.

I've read different things here ( (1) Ford will move the left over 2021 orders and input them into the 2022 order bank BEFORE new 2022 orders.... (2) Ford will cancel all orders and open ordering for all).

Who knows what will happen until it does.

I think for a refundable $500 I may order a 2022 on Monday. Am I nuts?
No, that makes sense.

Unless you're in a hurry to get the car - in that case, you may want to hang on to your 2021 order.

I also ordered my Iconic Silver Premium ER on 8/5/21. Just called my sales person and he said it would roll to a 2022 , and I may need to pick a new color if Iconic Silver isn't offered. My only issue is he said call me on Wednesday to check. If it doesn't roll I am 2 days behind everyone. He also told me all the ordering etc has been taken over by Ford and I would hear by email. I think for a refundable $500 I may order a 2022 on Monday. Am I nuts?
What does that mean that ordering has been taken over by Ford? How many of these comments from sales people are them just talking out of their ass? (no offense to you or your salesman)
Also, your scenario reminds me of how the refundable $500 makes no sense. Why is there an ordering fee when it is either rolled into the downpayment or refunded whether or not you buy the car? What's the point? IMHO, it should be non-refundable if you don't buy the car.
Having said that, Ford and/or the dealership probably doesn't care because they are guaranteed to sell the car even if you back out. But it doesn't really make sense...

Exactly...

This is why I think the best/fairest way is just move the 2021 non-scheduled to build orders to be 2022 models, have folks adjust their orders if needed (mostly possibly colors) and everyone is happy (except the people who want to cut in line on the 2022 order book).

There are downsides to this as any 2021 would be built before the 2022 and you won't be able to claim the tax credit till 2023. If delays are even worst and they surpass the 200k fed tax credit, it would also cost you $3750 to delay.

My dealer just called and asked if I wanted a 2021 or 2022. I asked him if I could get Iconic Silver in 2021 since I read it was balanced out end of August, he thought no He told me NOT to order Monday that they would handle the 2022 order for me and he would call me if Iconic Silver wasn't availble. I hate a black interior so have to go with Premium model.

This might have been said before but For all of those individuals that have an order in for 2021 and planning to also order a 2022, please do the rest of us 2021 order people a favor, cancel your 2021 order.

the more of you that cancel your 21’s the better the chance mine will get built.

thanking you in advance
