What are folks thinking 2023 holds for the MME as far as features and design? Much change from 2022?

To me, the 2022 had take-aways (e.g. foot operated trunk opening) vs. adds.

I'm guessing not much different for 2023, but what do you think?

Hopefully some of the take-aways will return if they chip shortage can be alleviated in time.

If Ford really plans on more than tripling Mach-e production for 2023, as suggested in articles recently, I’d not expect any feature returns for that model year. In fact, if there is such a production expansion, I think there’ll be additional feature eliminations happening. Personally, I do not believe we’ll see any easing in chip supplies until 2024 or beyond.

Expecting any noticeable change in 2023 is unlikely.

Deloitte - "We expect shortages and supply chain issues to remain front and center for the first half of the year, hopefully easing by the back half, but with longer lead times for some components stretching into 2023, possibly well into 2023."

"Supply limitations are far from over and will persist well into 2022," Infineon CEO Reinhard Ploss said during an investor call. Infineon is concerned that the spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant would lead China, with its zero-COVID strategy, to shut down factories, limiting supply.

A chip factory takes a couple of years to build and another couple to get to maximum capacity, STMicroelectronics said. The company said in November that it would take until 2024 or 2025 to see a major increase in capacity.

I do wonder if they are ending orders so early this year to allow for some production changes. Maybe they add some Lightning features like VTL and/or the lightning on-board charger.

They have said they are making changes as they go, and have already implemented $1,000 in cost reductions.

No, I don't think either of those will come to the Mach-E. They cut off orders when they realized that all of 2022's production was used up. I'd expect 2023 production to begin in late Fall, with orders starting a month or so before.

The android automotive OS was supposed to be released in 2023. I wonder if that’s going in

2023 model year starts in calendar year 2022. Android Automotive was to start in calendar year 2023. I would guess no - that the Mach-E would get it in 2024 model year, but that's just a SWAG.

I’m going out on a limb and predict the 2023 models will have a lighter battery pack. As in fewer cells. Because battery cells are the next supply issue with everyone trying to produce EV’s as fast as possible.

I'm also wondering if there are "non-chip" related changes they might make to improve?....e.g. longer rear wiper, better rear cargo cover, 12V batter access in frunk, option to upgrade suspension on the all models, new paint colors, additional GT wheel options, etc........I guess some of these may have supply issues also.

I think 2023 production begins in 2022, with no delivery prior to January 2023.

Ford usually does “product refreshes” on a 3 year cycle, so I don’t expect much, except maybe some new colors (and hopefully reinstatement of features that were removed to do chip shortage.
One “bad habit” Ford has is that they “decontent” vehicles in subsequent model years. I think they’ll have to learn quickly that “decontenting is death” in the current EV market. As a shareholder, I’m glad they’re doing cost takeout, but they should also keep content and be planning for few features for MY2024 (ventilated seats, heated rear seats, more sophisticated BlueCruise features, like lane change assist), integrated “dash camera” and exterior camera suite for security, maybe some modest styling tweaks, more powerful drive units, expanded battery capacity. And most importantly, an electronic frunk release!

Perhaps a Shelby Mach-E will arrive, like a Mach-E GT350. Though maybe not, it seems they really need to overcome whatever is requiring the five second power limit on the GTs before a Shelby is introduced.
