I see that they have announced that the 2023 Premium will get an increase in range. Any chance they will do the same to the 2022 retroactively?

It's likely just a change in the range calculation.

For Premium AWD extended range - It was 277 for 2022 model. Now it shows as 290.

So 13 miles increase. I heard that it's because of efficient management of ac/heat for 2023 model. Battery capacity is still the same.

I think ford is tweaking their software, if that's the case everyone will get it eventually

Can software increase efficiency with a BEV?
certainly changing how the regenerative braking works and engages could result in more efficiency. The same could be said about how the car applies power and AWD

I don't have any proof but its plausible

Every real world testing done on '21 and '22 seemed to show that Ford overestimated the AWD "penalty" on range estimates. The real world testing basically showed that AWD has been just a hair under RWD all along.

Personally, I don't think they changed anything except removed some pessimism from the EPA range quote.

My money is on wheels or tires.
No significant change to wheels or tires would net 13 more miles, unless Ford switched to an even smaller tire... maybe they had a handful of Model-T wheels and tires on the shelf...

13 miles can easily be had with a change to wheels/tires. The compare the mpge of the select and the CA Rt1.

Yes. Tesla is well known for doing that. Their software remains ahead of the pack.
Did they increase efficiency or just release more usable battery? Big difference.

Quick search found these-

update that increased “displayed range” but not efficiency-
https://www.engadget.com/tesla-soft...NB0BFaN4ES8n086cusIGgyJ37ot3izUaGIsc31S7AleRT

Update that makes autopilot brake more efficiently (the guess technically more efficient, but not really)-
https://electrek.co/2022/01/25/tesl...r-regenerative-braking-higher-efficiency/amp/

Changes to a/c to increase efficiency-
https://electrek.co/2020/10/16/tesla-software-update-increasing-range-existing-vehicles/amp/

Seems more that they’re tweaking other energy usage, but not really making the motors/battery more efficient.

No not changing the battery accessibility. Many other small tweaks that mass up over time. Ford is trying to do the same, but playing catch-up. Ford recently increased high speed L3 charging from up to 80% of charge to 90% of charge.
