Fair point. I don't like dealing with the airlines. When you factor in driving to the airport, waiting for flight, waiting to deboard, etc you are probably at 4 hours of the 5 hour drive. But with a BEV right now, it's really longer than a 5 hour drive...

Anyway, it's almost a toss up for me.
We used to fly to Vegas all the time (over 50 times dating back to the 80's). But now we like to drive, even though it's almost 800 miles. Our favorite casinos are out in the suburbs, and there's a handful we rotate around. We definitely need a car. We used to always rent one but as you said, flying involves a lot of time and hassle now.

Phoenix is so close to Vegas I wouldn't even think about flying. As you said, door-to-door it's just as quick (maybe quicker) to drive. Although it would depend some on where one is staying. The Strip and downtown casinos aren't nearly as car-friendly as they used to be. Kinda sucks. But the outlying casinos are still great.

Still, if someone builds a DC FC in Wickenburg, this plus the one being built in Kingman will enable driving between Las Vegas and Phoenix.
You have about 1000 meters of elevation gain going from Phoenix to Kingman. That's the bad news. The good news is that the high point is about half way. That means you likely shouldn't have too much issue having enough range if you're willing to go 70 MPH rather than 75 MPH. If the climb was at the end you might be in trouble. Range is path dependent, meaning you may be able to get from A to B but not from B to A. The worst is to have a big climb near the end or the beginning (can't use regen). [EDIT: I realize I read the elevation map wrong. I used the map from Phoenix to Las Vegas. The elevation gain going to Kingman is right before you get there. Oops. Not good. Pepcid time.)

You could also go through Quartzite. A little longer but not a huge deal and no need for Pepcid.

Anyway this will all become clear once you have the MME and get to understand the range you get when driving.

Interesting they mentioned Gila Bend. It's a nice centrally located spot but with a charger at Dateland and Buckeye it's probably not strictly necessary.

The other way EA could figure out where to locate their high speed chargers is to just look at where the superchargers are! Tesla has done a nice job of locating these. (Yes there is one in Gila Bend).
