30% battery use for 78 miles.

Might not seem too impressive but it's a SR AWD so that works out over 240 miles and it was 65 to 75 almost all the way.

It is hilariously awful that in this use case 28% of the energy source was used not even propelling the vehicle. I know EVs have compromises but that's plain terrible. And that's before freezing temperatures.

I guess that you weren't aware ICE cars use at most 35% of the energy in gas to propel them, with the rest being wasted as heat?

I guess it's not as obvious, you know the mpg but not how how it's made up. The breakdown of what's going on with an EV just puts it in your face more.

The difference is that EVs are wildly efficient in comparison to gasoline. When it's wildly efficient, outside influences have much more impact on the overall efficiency moreso than gasoline.

Gasoline by comparison has much less overall efficiency impact because it's already wildly inefficient.

I think I do and I agree with you. But I want to figure out where the difference between 2% that @Coffs reported and my 7% comes from because he has all these accessories that you've listed. The only thing (and I suspect it's the highest energy consumption) is charging the 12V battery, that is very low or non-existent right after charging the HVB, and that is not a condition in my experiment. This part will happen tomorrow

I started with 100% charge so hopefully my 12v battery was charged during the HV charging period. Leading up to this I had the dreaded 12v battery warning low level once a week, this was the first journey over 15 minutes long since getting the Mach E.

My experience is that heated wheel/seats get put in the Accessories bin, and not Climate.

Don’t forget the radiator fan, that’s part of accessories and can draw a lot of power. Same with rear defrost.

I commute 90 miles RT a day. Rural 2 lane. Averaged 4.1 mi/KWh for the last 1800 miles.. ever since it warmed up to 45-54 degree mornings and 62-64 degree afternoons. 68 KW Battery at 93.5% health and 48,000 K on the odometer. Typically takes me 54 minutes one way on roads varying in speed from 25-55. Pretty hard to go much faster than 57-58 given state patrol, winding roads. The MME can be amazingly efficient.

I noted that it was showing 7% due to Accessories. My AC and fan were off, as was my radio. My ventilated seats were off. The only "accessories" I used, other than having displays on, was to open the sunroof shade and the driver's window.

The drive was only 7 miles, but it goes to show how the lack of clarity in this information makes it confusing.
