I picked up a new Mach E over the weekend! As noted in a different post, I had been considering this for a month or more as my '22 GT (non-PE) was going to go off the bumper to bumper warranty this fall. I wasn't necessarily having problems with it, although I was certainly aware of the possible issues. There were also some upgrades I was interested in, like Magna-ride, the Performance Upgrade option, and no limiter. I just wasn't sure how much I was willing to pay to get them.
I started looking into both '24 or '25 GTs - the closest matches to what I would be interested in were usually a thousand miles or more away (of course), or, in the case of the 25's, always "In Transit". I've done long distance transactions, and it wasn't ideal - it either adds significantly to the cost and/or involves a significant time commitment. My local dealer had a "new" '24 GT on the lot with a few hundred miles on it, but they were trying to sell it based on it's MSRP which is higher than a comparable '25. I asked about it a few times, but they would just kinda say "There's nothing we can do about it for now", to which I'd reply "Good luck trying to sell it for more than a '25."
I found a '24 GT at a (non Ford) dealer 1500 miles away in Oklahoma that was a really good match - a Rapid Red with upgraded wheels and less than 5k miles on it. They wanted $45k which seemed well within reason (it had the "Great Price" label on auto trader). However, shipping the car to me was going to add about $3k, plus I'd have to buy it without first checking it over in person. Or if I was reasonably sure I was willing to make the deal, I could fly out there and drive it home. But the travel costs (airline ticket, charging, lodging) to get it home, while probably less than the $3k shipping, would still be significant plus I'd have a solid 3 days of driving with all the charging stops. Still, I considered it...
Back to the local dealer - I got an advertisement from them early last week about their Memorial day sale and so I decided to "check in" with them again. This time I contacted a sales manager who I had worked with when ordering my first MME GT back in '21 (what an adventure that was with tracking all the progress, etc. - a show of hands for anyone who remembers that experience?). I figured that it would take someone at his level to authorize a meaningful discount on that '24 GT. I was hoping that relationship of working with him previously, plus them wanting to move cars for the sale AND it being near the end of the month combined might produce a better outcome. So I asked him when they were going to get serious about trying to sell that '24 GT and discount it at least below the comparable '25's. He got back to me with a really good quote, too good to pass up. Long story short, I basically got that new '24 GT for about the same price as I would have paid for the used one in Oklahoma after all the discounts and promotions, plus it was here local! Even though it wasn't quite as good a match as the used one (no upgraded wheels, plus it had the pano roof which I wasn't looking for), it was clearly the best option, so I pulled the trigger on that deal last Friday.
As I alluded to, this is my 3rd Mach E GT and it should be the best one yet. Obviously I'm still a huge fan of the car. Some other odds and ends about this "upgrade":
* I'm a fan of the dial shifter and the '24's still had it. I could have gotten used to the new layout in the '25's, but not having to do that is gravy for me
* I bought a sunshade for the panoramic roof and so far it seems to work well in reducing heat and it looks like it belongs there. I'll definitely be using it during the hotter summer months.
* The stock "pedal" wheels...they aren't great but they're way better than the stock wheels on the '25 GT's IMHO. I'm still seriously considering an upgrade there. I'd love to get my hands on the sinister bronze wheels from the bronze appearance package, but so far they seem next to impossible to come by unless they're attached to an actual '24 or '25 GT. I think they'd look fantastic on my Rapid Red MME - not sure why that isn't an order option with Ford. (My sales person agrees - he calls it the "Iron Man" color combo.)
Well that's what I did over my holiday weekend. Looking forward to even more years of enjoying this car now!
