On a daily basis, I’m getting notice that an update to 4.2.6 is failing. This is one of those updates that requires the car be inoperable for 35 minutes. I’ve tried having car plugged in, unplugged, on Wi-Fi, off Wi-Fi, during regular scheduled update, and during a manual update now. It’s been doing this for a week now.
Anyone having the same? Do I really need to schedule a service appt for this nonsense?

I got a call from a member yesterday telling me he had the same problem. The car tried to install 4.2.6 OTA many times but failed. He said he drove it around a lot, left it charging, not charging, left it running in his garage for 3 hours but nothing worked. He called Ford and they told him it looked like his LVB charge was too low. He left it running in his garage for 6 hours and he finally got the update. Maybe his LVB is marginal? I'm not too familiar with OTA updates and what is required as I do my own updates but just wanted to share what he told me worked for him. I'm sure someone else more familiar with OTA updates will chime in and give some suggestions.

Sounds like a vehicle maintenance problem with the 12V. I understood the car has a 12V power supply that runs off the big battery which can in turn be plugged into 240V wall power which is just a bit more than the 120V 12V charger gets. Why it counts so heavily on the 12V is anyone's guess. Come on Ford don't be chicken just close those contacts and feed the cars little 12V with all the power it has. Install off the power supply not the 12V would be a novel idea.

I had the problem with repeated 4.2.6 install failures. It finally went through. Another member confirmed I had a low 12V battery, which finally was charged.

I had a ticket open with Ford on this and once they finally responded they said, drive it around for a half hour, then charge to 100% and then retry the update. It worked.

Sigh. I want to love the fact that my car has some cool tech and can be updated to become even cooler. But this kind of stuff makes me second guess all that. I shouldn’t have to check my 12v battery or go drive for a certain amount of time or charge to a level I don’t normally charge to or monitor a random Internet forum to get this stuff to just work.

Wow, 3 hours should be enough to mostly charge it. If it took 6 hours to reach a high enough level I'd be concerned about the 12V battery health. They may want to try a battery reconditioning charge (which I've detailed here) or consider 12V replacement.

Thanks Lee, I'll send him your link.

I had the same issue - several failed update attempts over the course of two days. I then charged to 100%, kept the vehicle plugged in, initiated the install, and it worked. In addition, got an instant range bump from 225 - 250 mi.

After failing to install after 10 tries, I took it to the dealership that I purchased it from. Told them the only precondition that possibly could cause 4.2.6 to fail installing was the failure of the 12v battery. They charged up the 12v battery, it passed their tests...and failed to install 4.2.6.

So the dealership contacted Ford Engineering who told them to try with a new 12v battery, which they installed in my vehicle. In the meantime, the dealership technician working on the car updated every possible module. And 4.2.6 still failed. Apparently Ford Engineering told the dealership to release the car to me, as they said the vehicle would update on its next scheduled 1:00am update.

The next morning I checked. Of course, 4.2.6 failed to install.
But Ford Pass was giving me a DIFFERENT ERROR MESSAGE. from the previous 10ish tries.
I called Ford Pass customer support and opened a ticket, and was transferred over to their In-Vehicle Technology/OTA Update team, a guy named Pedro looked at the vehicle (presumably over FDRS) and told me that 4.2.6 failed to install this last time because there was now a software incompatibility, and that another module would require updating (DC Fast Charging) first. Which brought up another issue --

This DC Fast Charging update 23-PUO105-DC-CHG2 installed successfully according to Ford Pass app...but the vehicle itself kept insisting it failed. After 2 days of discrepancy between the mobile app and the vehicle's GUI with (possible) failure to install at 1:00am, I called the OTA Update team again, and they insisted that no matter what my vehicle said, their servers showed that my car performed a successful update. They had me "reset the connection of the vehicle" (sounds like a cache clearance, to me) with the following "keystrokes"
1.Start car
2.Do display master reset (vol down + next track x 10 secs)
3.Turn off car
4.Open driver door and leave open
5.Lock car (using power lock button)
6.Shut driver door
7.Wait till overhead lights turn off, begin 2 minute timer
8.After two minutes, restart car and check updates

After which point, the car display then showed another update to be installed (23-PUO415-BLM-VIS) which then occurred within a couple hours.

And I have no idea if 4.2.6 will ever come, or has already been installed!

Did they recommend to do all this under a full moon?

Does the car lock with the door open and then you are able to shut the door?

Hmmm. I just got the 4.2.6 upgrade. My app says it updated successfully but my range went down.

Thanks, did all that and it took ten minutes to install and done.
After about six attempt’s over three days.
