We’ve had our Premium AWD ER for about 2.5 months. We barely have 1300 miles on it. We came home two days ago to find a bird sitting on the driver’s windowsill repeatedly pecking the folded rearview mirror. We didn’t think much of it, so we shooed the bird away and forgot about it. Over the course of the next two days, every time I go outside, the bird is back and pecking the mirror and mirror housing.

It turns out that the bird has a nest nearby and seems to be confronting the perceived threat of its own reflection. The downside? My driver’s side rearview mirror housing now has scratches in the clear coat that I cannot remove with wash/wax. Seriously, you cannot make this sh*t up. The car was pristine and a bird changed that for us.
Any tips on how to easily resolve the scratches in the clear coat? Most wouldn’t notice them, but I know that they’re there and it messes with my OCD.

Set a plastic owl on your car. We have a male bluebird that fights his reflection in my shop window every morning. To keep him from killing himself I put one of those plastic owl's hanging from gutter and he never came back.

I had a bird doing the same thing to my new F150. It was pecking at the mirror glass and left fine scratches on it. My housing is ok. Just the glass is slightly messed up. Purchased a new mirror glass. Just need to figure out the installation process first. The truck is now in the garage but my new Mach E is outside. I took towels and placed them on the mirrors. So far so good.

One of the cars I owned was once attacked viciously by a turkey. He kept walking around the car and headbutting it over and over again. Figured he saw his reflection in the shiny paint. Did not ruin the paint but I did have to wash it again as each headbutt was a grey oval.
