That’s a great idea! It does take a while to update the departure time if it’s non standard. #beyond1stworldproblems (but seriously that’s a great option Ford needs to add, hope they’re reading!)
Do you mean like pressing the big "start" button in the middle of the app screen 15 minutes before you're ready to go?

All I know is this. I and the family took a trip from where we live to the ark encounter in northern ky. 248 miles round trip. On the way back it wanted us to stop in Lexington ky to charge. I looked it said we had 20 miles over the amount needed to get home. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee daddy ain't stopping. The further and further we went. The closer to home, the range keep going down.

My wife was stressing out. Hun Imperator Furiosa has this don't worry. But deep down my butthole was sucking buttermilk. I was a little worried. When we finally made it home we had 15 miles of range left. Not bad for 64-degree weather and cruising 79 on the interstate. The mache has the range people. So in a closing statement, I would just like to say..... Drive it like you stole it. The mache was made for us chance takers.

As discussed previously:

The letter says that the schedule preconditions both the cabin and the battery. Remote starting only does the cabin when plugged in.

As discussed previously:
Yes, and that is one of the things that was mentioned by some of the insiders in January/February as being addressed in one of the planned updates.

At least that's what my old man brain remembers

Same here, when I reset my driving history on my Mach-E4x (AWD Ext. battery) it resets to ~230 miles instead of even the EPA-rating of 270.
Sure. The GOM has to be ready for things like your next 200+ miles will be all uphill.

It's absolutely bananas that it's a 100% or 0% for battery heating. No sharing with the cabin, just sit in the cold and heat the battery, or sit in the warm cabin and leave the battery frozen. At least it's warmer now, but it was frustrating sitting in the cold car to speed up charging all winter.

This needs to be OTA'ed by next winter or there's gonna be a lot more unhappy customers.
Where does it say 100% or 0% for battery heating when on DC face charging.
Simple fact is when charging the car can only pull a max of 150 KW. If some of that power is being diverted to running the heater that is less power that can go to the batteries and as such increases your charge time. If the charger max out put is only 50 KWs then again that is the max power your car can charge at. Using the heater is going to pull from that bank of power.
No OTA can fix that underlining issue.

My floor space heater at home is rated 1kwh. No way on earth you need more than 1-2kwh to heat the cabin.

My Tesla Model 3 draws a maximum of 6 kW just for the cabin heater - the new ones are getting heat pumps. The 6 kW is only when the heater is cold. As it warms up consumption quickly drops to around 3kW unless it's super cold out. Once the cabin is at the set temperature the consumption drops down to whatever it needs to maintain temperature. But that 6 kW is how the cabin is able to warm up so quickly, even in frigid temperatures.

You misunderstand me.

When the HVAC is on, the battery is not being warmed. The coolant heater is running, but it's not going to the battery, it's going to the cabin. That's provable by a simple OBDII adapter from Amazon and the FORScan app.

The coolant heater remains on when the HVAC is turned off, it's just dedicated to heating the battery.

I am not getting anything confused, it's clear how the system operates.

Dual motor? If so, it's 3.5 kW per motor, 7.0 kW. Usually takes 3 minutes to get a Tesla cabin from 40F to 70F.

They recently added an option in the app to precondition even when not plugged in. I haven't actually tried it yet though, so not sure if it works.
Thank you!! I didn't even notice that!! It must have been added in a Ford Pass update!!

I would guess that it’s because it probably takes a lot longer to precondition the battery than it does the cabin. If you set a departure time, the car might start heating up the battery an hour or more before then. It wouldn’t have the same impact if it was only 15 minutes before leaving.
Yeah, it's not a fast process. The Mach-E ER battery is around 13xx lbs, so that's a lot of thermal mass to warm up. On my Model Y, the battery pack is around 1056 lbs. It increases 0.7F per minute when ambient temps are in the 40s (my garage is usually 10 deg warmer than ambient).

For those that find this difficult to read, I used a photo to text tool to get this:

Range estimate in the vehicles is actively learning and predicting range based on driving habits, set destinations and ambient temps. One way to reset this range is to delete driving history, usually done, before delivery. This will reset the range forecast to the optimal (best) prediction, but over the next few days it will take into account the driving pattern, ambient temps and the use of pre-conditioning, etc to forecast a more realistic range for the user.

Here is some info that will help the Dealer:
To help maximize range in winter, follow these pro tips:
  • Park in a garage wherever possible.
  • Keep your Mach-E plugged in when parked. We recommend plugging it in whenever possible.
  • Use FordPass app or SYNC 4A touchscreen to precondition your vehicle using departure times to warm the cabin and the battery while plugged in. Note: Using remote start from the app or key fob (while plugged in) only preconditions the cabin; setting departure times preconditions both cabin and battery.
  • Use heated seats and steering wheel as primary heat sources to reduce energy consumed by HVAC system.
  • When charging, turn off the heater (especially when using DC Fast Chargers).
  • If snow covered, brush all the snow off your vehicle before driving to eliminate extra weight and drag.
  • Keep driving speeds moderate, as high speeds use more energy. Ensure your tires are at the proper pressure.
