My wife and I had our first experience driving the car on an extended trip to see our daughter in Sycamore Illinois yesterday in the cold (20-25 degrees F. outside). We can usually do it in the summer on 100% charge as it covers the roundtrip. Yesterday the battery showed only 180 miles range while it's close to 210 miles in warmer weather. BUT, when we got about hald way the battery was really low so we stopped and topped off the battery at DC fast charger from about 60% to 80%. Same thing on the way home, stopped about half way and charged the car to 80%. Did not cost me anything as I am using my Ford credit for the kWh hours they start one off with. The big thing that was very uncomfortable (for my wife especially) was that we turned off the heat for the cabin and only used the seat heaters and steering wheel heater. This was to conserve battery power and it ended up with her covering her legs with a blanket and swearing we'll NEVER take the car again up to Sycamore until the weather warms up. Even with 2 blankets over her legs she still was VERY uncomfortable. I don't think we'll take it again this winter and rather used our ICE Acura with an almost 500 mile range on a fill up. Longer range and car is more comfortable because it's bigger and the climate control works better. Still love the Mach E as a daily driver around town and we do about 90% of our driving with it.

I hit a new low last night with a 79 mile trip out to dinner. -2 to 3F, an average speed of 45 MPH, 3 people, dry salted roads. We started with 80% battery, not preconditioned, cold interior, returned home with 23% battery.

39.2 miles to and from. So, 0.57*88=50.2 kWh to drive 78.4 miles is 1.56 mi/kWh or an overall range of 138 miles, premium AWD ER. Overall range loss of 51% in these conditions. Heat on Auto 72, 2 seats and wheel. Cruise used.

Car reported 1.55 (1.2 to and 1.9 return) meaning reporting error was minimal. Also the travel time shown on the final screen screen is wrong. IDK what went wrong with Trips. We did not drive 70 MPH. For a strange reason the miles of the “trip” did not reset coming back and were spot on at 78.4 for the round trip. The time is about right and return Mi/kWh.

I think I could assume if I preheated we would have done 1.9 mi/kWh each way, a much better outcome, 167 miles range.

With an SR, that’s a range of 105 miles.

Even funnier, look at my EV driving data from FordPass, I just found it recorded. 2.1 on the way there (1.2 actual) and the return with double the miles, 2.4 (1.9 actual)., 100% incorrect and attached below. I will have to say this data is useless.
Did you use the app to remote start your car? It does that, not resetting the miles for the "this trip" meter, every single time I use the app start it, although I have seen it sometimes forgetting to reset on the next start.

The coldest I've put my SR AWD through was 5F degrees, and it displayed 116 miles at 85%. IIRC it was at 2.4MPK. What is absolutely fantastic is that regen braking is seemingly unaffected by the cold.

My buddy just drove to Vail from Chicago this weekend in his 2021 MOdel 3 LR. He saw a reduced range right around 30%. It wasn't even that cold for the trip. 25%+ reduced range seems to be pretty normal for EVs in the winter. I haven't read or heard otherwise.

Yes I did remote start after the restaurant to warm for a few minutes as we walked out. So that is why Miles did not reset! Thank you for clarifying!

Similar bug but reversed with the trip 1 and trip 2 meters. When you tap reset, it'll only the miles and not the MPK figure. You'll have to keep tapping it until the MPK also resets. Very strange bugs.
