Record fell during this past weekend's running of the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. Ford's all-electric Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 flew down the strip at Summit Motorsports Park, breaking its own full-bodied electric vehicle drag racing world record twice over.
With funny car legend Bob Tasca III behind the wheel, the all-electric Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 made its first trip down the quarter-mile at Summit Motorsports Park with a pass of 8.26 seconds at 167 mph. This was fast enough to break the car's previous best of 8.27 seconds at 168 mph, which was set in September of 2020. Not content with a single world record pass however, Tasca III's sent the Cobra Jet 1400 down the strip a second time, cementing the world record status with a 8.128 second pass at speeds of 171.97 mph.

The Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 is a one-off creation, and may be the most extreme drag racer Ford has ever built. Power output comes by way of four PN-250-DZR inverters mated to a pair of DS-250-115s motors. The powertrain was developed alongside Cascadia Motion, and runs 800 volts and up to 700 amps, with a maximum output of 350kW at each motor. Despite what the name might suggest, this electric Mustang racer lays down a Chiron-rivaling 1502 hp and 1100 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. It may not sound like a Coyote V-8, but Ford is quite proud that the package lays down three times as much power as a Mustang GT.

During the record-setting pass, the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 kept its nose lifted off the ground for much of the run. A wheelie always looks cool, but that does suggest that there might still be some time left on the table with this car. In fact, we wouldn't be surprised if Ford's electric drag racing machine is able to find its way into the sevens in the near future. That's a mighty achievement for any drag racing car, especially one that's powered by batteries.

This is a hell of an electric mustang drag racer, no doubt. But contrary to the title of this thread (Edit: Moderator renamed thread and moved it to the proper forum) it’s obviously not a Mach-E.

However there is also a 1400hp Mach-E. And despite both being one-off 1400hp electric Mustangs (with similar liveries, even), these two have very different drivetrains. This is because, although both are extreme vehicles, they are designed for very different types of motorsport. It‘d still be pretty cool to see a match race between them though.
