There is nothing surprising about any of these delays at all. I have thought this would be the most likely scenario since earlier this year. What it is, is disappointing. I and others, have allowed ourselves to get psyched up by all the great hype on this forum, and were lulled into thinking, or at least hoping, for an early delivery. It's hard to wait, and harder to accept $7500 defer for over a year, yes, but unexpected? Not really. And I'm certainly not cancelling my FE or GT orders.

And by the way, this is a great forum. Mostly positive, extremely helpful, loads of info, and nowhere near the amount of personal attacks seen on virtually every other forum on the internet!

Did your dealer show you anything official from Ford or is it just verbal at this point?
Just verbal after reading the screen of his computer where he ordered the car. Now you have me suspicious and I’m worried once again. I hope I get the e-mail from Ford soon.
PS - Yes, this seems like a GREAT forum; lots of info and nice people. Just a lot of confusion over the ordering process and now I’m as confused as everybody else!

You have more faith in your dealer than I do in mine. Anything is possible, but the information that you're getting from your dealer is contrary to what the other hundreds of us are getting from Ford. I'd be suspicious.

Even just the fact that they gave you two possible build weeks at first doesn't seem right. Either the system shows a build week or it doesn't. It wouldn't show two.

I found out it didn’t show two; just the week of December 14th. The 2 weeks I posted were from me as I couldn’t hear him clearly yesterday. When I called again today is when he told me week of December 14th. I’m still waiting for my VIN number and he should call me back soon.

Agreed and I look forward to looking over the data in the tracking sheet:
https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/submitted-orders-tracking-list-and-stats-enter-yours.924/
Everyone please make sure to enter your build date information there! That will help us understand what is happening with build orders and why many of our build dates are so out of whack with the priority we perceived from our reservation order.

That said, let's keep some things in mind:
  • COVID-19 has messed with all of Ford's planning. They also had to move back production by a few months. Despite that, they still will start deliveries in 2020.
  • EU/UK cars: Remember, they had a grand plan for simultaneous deliveries to North American and the EU/UK. Now it looks like some big buyers (fleet purchases for leasing companies in the Netherlands for example) are getting priority and some EU cars are being made in 2020. It also looks like they are starting to interleave EU/UK orders into the build sequence rather than maximizing NA deliveries. Considering they had to finalize orders early, that makes sense.
  • Canadian cars: Many buyers have promised build dates. It looks like these are at the early end of production as well. Again, their system was different from the US and they had to pre-order from the start.
  • Models and order have changed. No, Ford has never officially said they were moving the First Editions later but did change the website to now show all non-GT models starting delivery in late 2020.
  • Ford has to make the line as efficient as possible. That means mixing up the models. ER vs SR, AWD vs RWD, glass roof vs solid roof (glass roofs make it easier to drop in parts from above, adding the glass late in the line.
  • Ford always said dealers would get demos for us to drive before are cars arrive. While that may not work for every dealer (especially Hawaii!) but generally I think FCTP will start arriving in December as Ford promised. They will probably arrive before customer cars.
  • I'm sure there is appeasement of big fleet buyers, early delivery for employee leases, and sweetheart deals within the organization. That happens in business. It's business after all.
  • So far it looks like Ford is scheduling the First Editions in this first run and making sure all existing orders are run early.
Yeah, the build order sucks for some of us while others feel amazingly blessed to get an early date (you damn well better! :)).

I'm frustrated to see reservation and order play essentially no role in scheduling within this build run and even more frustrated to have a first day reservation, first day order conversion, and mid-December build for a First Edition. However, keep in mind, it still looks like Ford is keeping First Editions and early reservations among the first delivered, just not the VERY FIRST.

Now, let's get to the bottom of this mess while we wait for delivery!
I agree. This is a massively complex logistics issue with parts getting into the factory from all over the world, assembled in an efficient manner, and then getting shipped out all over the world in an efficient manner. Then throw covid in and you have part shortages, different quarantine rules for different states, etc.

I reserved about a week after unveiling my car and I have no build date yet. But I'm fine with that, Ford doesn't revolve solely around me.

I think it was earlier this week where I posted some information about the scheduling process as best as I understand it. It is based on information from 3 or 4 different sources including this forum.

In there I talk about priority codes and when they apply and when they dont. I also mention OTHER production concerns which has an effect on the schedule.

The scenario you describe is possible....a perfect storm of situations would need to occur but a clever dealer could have ordered you a car prior to mid month and get a build date later this year. Of course I dont know if that is what happened in your case but it isnt totally impossible. It sounds to me like your dealer is one of the clever ones. If I had to guess, your order is not a retail order but that is just a guess.

If I am to believe what I have been told. The build date for my First Edition is very very end of MP1. Pretty much right before MP2 starts up. However, I did hear rumor that some MP1 vehicles spilled over to MP2 ....if so, then my car would likely have been in that group. Unless my car wasnt affected by whatever caused the spill over in the first place.

Mark - I agree on all of your points, but on the Mach E Drop First Editions, I didn't see anyone say they have a build date yet. I know I don't and I am sure that my order is in the system as I have a printout from my dealer. Only the few people who switched to FE BEFORE the actual Drop program started have build dates. My reservation was not made until March, so I didn't expect early delivery for my original PE AWD ER, but I agreed to pay a premium ($1600 that became $3600) for a few cosmetic changes and earlier delivery (i.e. First Edition) under the Mach Drop. Is it really a First Edition if I get it 6 months after other deliveries?

Maybe if Ford called them limited editions or special editions, there may be less confusion. First edition may only signify that carmakers may simply make a special edition for newly launched cars just to add some unique exterior and interior design features, giving this specification a more unique and fashionable vibe that can add more appeal. The simple prospect of owning a model that feels more stand-out to most other examples of it can be enough to lure in additional customers.

Ford gave you your VIN? And you hadn’t received the email from Ford that others received telling you that it was “in production” (I believe that’s the term used in those emails)? Cool! Maybe I should call Ford! ?

The very last line says "order accepted".
I think the dealer needs to accept - which should trigger the order accepted green checkmark. I too ordered without reservation and my dealer emailed me after they accepted .
