Another cold Morning Commute 1F/-17C, all temperature trends, Job 2 ER

Here are today’s trends. Trended nearly everything EV and Heating. Not as cold as Last week but close. Same deal, No plug in, dead cold, 20 Min driveway warm up, 10.8 mile drive to work. Difference was heat on 72, Manual Fan 3. 1/2 way through adjusted to Manual Fan 4 due to window fogging. Probably 5 would have been the proper choice to start. Low temp on trip was -3F.

From what I can tell, battery did not try to heat. Looking at HvbCIT (battery coolant inlet temp).

From these graphs, it looks like the battery was well below freezing even while driving. Wild! Must not be great for the longevity of the pack.

It looks like above 0c.


I will know tomorrow when I plug in and trend again. I know the temperature management for the battery only comes on when my Ambient is around 10F or below.

Remember these are not water so we have to discount 0C for freezing. I do not know the actual freezing temps for the LG battery components but it’s at least below -22C according to an LG spec sheet. I would love to know what that number is.

Good point! Hadn't thought of that. It was -23F here last week. ?
