Is everyone doing DIY tire rotations? I sure wouldn't wait until 10k miles for that. ;)

The car rotates them at a few thousand RPM... Why do I need more that that? ?

I’m at 9300 and it’s currently at the dealer for some door ding/dent repair and rock chip touch up. Having them do the 10,000 mile service while it’s there too. I should have it back tomorrow.

LOL after I get my MME it's going to take 16-18 months to hit 10K miles unless my driving patterns change.

If I don’t take a roadie to Colorado, I should hit 10,000 in late July. Saturday will be 2 months, and I’ll be at about 4,900. My 5,000 mile review should come around Monday or Tuesday.

So I got it back (it took a little bit longer due to dent repair) but the 10,000 mile service ended up costing me $21. The way the dealer wrote it up was that charge was for the tire rotation and the multi point inspection was complimentary. They didn’t have a code for this service yet in their system (like how “The Works” is for other vehicles). Ready to put another 10k on it!!!

Is the tire rotation just a visual inspection of the tires wear?

As I understand, the 10,000 mile schedule call for tire inspection and rotation, and all the fluids checked...cooling for battery, cooling for electronics, power steering, power brakes, etc. Notice the only fluid they make readily available to monitor yourself is the windshield washer fluid. They do not want you to get under the protective overlays surrounding the 'frunk'. I've heard (but not read) this might void the warranty.
Surely if any levels were low you'd get an error flagged up on the dash screen?

Pretty close to 10k now. Checked the tread depth and surprised to see the rears wearing faster than the front. Not by much though. 8/32nd in back and 9/32nd in front. I failed to measure when new so I don't know what the wear rate is. I checked tire rack and it says 8.5/32" when new? That would be no measurable wear? Can't be right.

I was expecting about 30K miles on this first set. Looks like it might be much more judging by the measurements I just took. Not sure I'll even both with rotating the tires since the wear is so close front to rear.

I think if I start driving more sensibly then maybe the rears will last longer. :)

my dealer wants to charge $65 for the 10,000 service, which really is tire rotation and looking at a few things, but not doing anything about it. If i have a tire shop rotate the tires for $20 does that void the warranty since they have not checked things?

All the “things” they look at are the rotors and pads. Most places will do a free multi-point safety inspection while rotating the tires and that will include the brakes.

Well, its 10k/12 months, not just 10k. Especially if your car sits, you really need to have the tires checked.
LOL I have already had the tires off and on so many times in 2K miles. My jack and torque wrenches get a workout. ??
