Just learned that APS has an EV rate plan to get lower rates ($.08468 per kWh) from 11pm - 5am Weekdays vs normal off-peak ($.12351 per kWh). Need to call them and just tell them you have an electric vehicle. 602-216-0318 is the number to call.

Not sure it actually saves money over the lowest rate:
EV Overnight Charging 11pm-5am Weekdays Summer
Ford Mustang Mach-E APS in Phoenix, AZ EV Rate Plan 1736187254126-zh

Time-of-Use 4pm-7pm Weekdays with Demand Charge Summer
Ford Mustang Mach-E APS in Phoenix, AZ EV Rate Plan 1736187446040-or

EV Overnight Charging 11pm-5am Weekdays Winter
Ford Mustang Mach-E APS in Phoenix, AZ EV Rate Plan 1736187354133-sa

Time-of-Use 4pm-7pm Weekdays with Demand Winter

Ford Mustang Mach-E APS in Phoenix, AZ EV Rate Plan 1736187775313-qk

Totally depends on your on-peak usage.

Holy Cow! Thank you! I thought I was on the one without the demand rate but I just checked and you saved me some money!

SRP offers the same "benefit". They also give you a few hours overnight at a lower rate to charge your car, then hammer you with a ridiculously high peak rate. SMH.

Perhaps I have not looked at all scenarios, but I don't understand how these "EV plans" actually save anyone money. The APS summer EV vs Time-of-use charts posted here seem pretty self evident which is cheaper.

Its the demand charge. The rate without demand charge:
Ford Mustang Mach-E APS in Phoenix, AZ EV Rate Plan 1736233022177-k5

The EV rate adds overnight off-peak. If you can't limit your on-peak usage, the EV rate will help.

I've been tracking my hourly usage exports from srpnet.com (SRP) and found that the pricing comparisons that SRP uses when you speak to customer support (or look on your bills or the web site) are *spot on*. So if SRP states that you would have saved money if you were on some other rate plan, it's probably true -- and that's without any change to your habits.

I'm definitely saving money on the EV TOU plan compared to the basic/standard rate plan that I was previously using. It's not a huge amount, maybe a few hundred per year. But seriously, the only thing I had to do was program my car to charge between 11 pm and 5 am and that's it.

I work at an office, not at home, so it's not a big deal for me to increase HVAC temps in the middle of the day in the summer -- I've been doing that for many years now anyway. But it's an important reminder that your mileage may vary. It's pretty easy to call SRP and ask how your costs would have varied if you'd been on other plans last year instead of the one you'd elected.

I pay like 30 cents of peak on my EV plan in California. I am jealous. BTW gas is $4.30 a gallon.

APS actually has a page comparing your current plan to the others, so you don't even have to call

Mine works out best with demand charge. Especially since on-peak is only 4pm — 7pm. In the winter I charge the car between 10am and 3pm, to take advantage of super off-peak, and in the summer between midnight and 6am, when the garage is the coolest.

Actually, I'm loving the SRP EV Plan. If you have a Smart Thermostat, you can work around those high demand times. I cool down big time overnight which is also nice for sleeping and also cool down in the hours prior to peak and then set the peak hours for a ridiculous number like 98F and the AC never kicks in. Most houses will not heat up that fast during the peak hours. Also, in 2025, they will introduce a new plan that actually drops the overnight rates for charging even more. Pretty good deal if you manage it properly.

I've programmed my Lightning to charge during super-off-peak. It's about $5 to fill the truck from 0% to 100%. I keep meaning to adjust the Mustang's charge time for winter, but my partner drives and I keep forgetting to go in and update the times.
