Are front and rear brakes different?

Are the front and rear brakes different? It looks like the back brakes don't have a nice solid housing like the front brakes.

This is from a loaner I had last weekend.

Yes, they’re different. That‘s the case with most cars. Front brakes are usually bigger and ventilated.

Fronts appear to be fixed calipers. Rears are floating.

Yes. See my thread about painting my brakes yesterday and you can see just how different. Front brakes are WAY more robust.

Yeah those are floating calipers in the back...somewhat of a silly cost cutting move in what is marketed as a performance vehicle. I suppose it is better than the rear drums in the ID.4.

Massive brakes on the rear axle of a RWD or AWD EV is a waste. Even drums back there would be fine because they are rarely (if ever) put to heavy use.
