As more and more Arizona drivers get behind the wheel of an electric vehicle, the Arizona Department of Transportation is taking advantage of new federal funding sources and developing a long range plan to implement a statewide network of EV charging stations.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, recently made $5 billion available for the deployment of publicly accessible electric vehicle (EV) chargers along alternative fuel corridors nationwide. The goal is to deploy a network of EV fast chargers to reduce range anxiety and encourage EV adoption by more users.

Over the next five years, the state is set to receive $76.5 million in federal dollars through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program to establish publicly accessible EV charging stations along Arizona’s designated alternative fuel corridors. Current alternative fuel corridors in Arizona include the interstates; but additional corridors can be added in the future.

ADOT will be seeking input from the public and a wide variety of agency and industry stakeholders during the preparation of the plan. An online public survey and virtual public meeting are planned in July.

I wish New Hampshire and Maine had a published plan.
AZ doesn't have a plan either. Arizona is trying to figure out how to spend the $72m (or whatever the figure is) that is being allocated by the federal gov't for that EV infrastructure bill. That money won't go very far unfortunately. The federal requirements are interesting though. Min 600kW per facility. Must have 4 dual head L3 dispensers and 2 dual head L2 dispensers, be within 1 mile of the freeway exit and some other stuff.

This will be interesting....
We are expecting ADOT to have something out by Sept but in all reality it will be Q1 or Q2 of next year once the politicians get involved.

You're most likely right. I've signed up on their Survey Monkey thing for future feedback invitations, for the slim chance my input will be influential.

An update from ADOT:

Ford Mustang Mach-E Arizona: ADOT seeking public input for how/where to spend federal funds on EV charging corridors govdelivery-header-template_original
Virtual public meeting slated for ADOT Electric Vehicle Plan
The Arizona Department of Transportation has scheduled a virtual public meeting on Thursday, July 14, to provide information and gather input about the ADOT Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Plan currently being prepared. The event is scheduled from 6 - 7:30 p.m. and can be accessed through the internet or by phone.
The plan is being developed in response to funding made available through the recently-approved federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to deploy publicly accessible electric vehicle (EV) chargers along alternative fuel corridors. ADOT’s plan seeks to create a network of EV fast chargers along the state’s interstate highways, facilitating long-distance EV travel and encouraging EV adoption by more users. For those unable to attend, a recording of the meeting will be posted to the ADOT Electric Vehicle Plan website azdot.gov/EVplan.
Join the meeting:
from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14
By internet - https://us06web.zoom.us/j/85853613254
By phone +1 669 900 6833
Webinar ID: 858 5361 3254
We also encourage you to help guide the development of the statewide plan by completing the AZ EV Plan Survey.

Thanks for sharing the info. I've completed the survey and plan to join the webcast. Our second home is in Peoria just off 303 and while 2 EA stations are within 30 minutes, having a closer one would be helpful for EV owners who use 303.

The state's draft plan is available for review:

https://azdot.gov/planning/transpor...le-program/documents-arizona-electric-vehicle

Lots of interesting data in the document. Here's just a random sample. This figure shows which interstate corridors are considered alternative fuel ready (orange) versus pending (blue). The pending corridors lack sufficiently spaced refueling locations to meet federal highway administration standards. You can also observe the spacing of Tesla DCFCs versus everyone else's DCFCs.

The Federal Highway Administration has approved ADOT's plan and begun its funding funnel.

https://azdot.gov/adot-news/adot-statewide-electric-vehicle-charger-plan-gets-approval

"The plan calls for stations to be no more than 50 miles apart wherever possible [along Interstates 8, 10, 15, 17, and 19].

In many cases, stations will be located where there is already infrastructure in place, such as truck stops, roadside lodging, restaurants and shopping centers, among other possibilities."

Looks like Scottsdale to Las Vegas would still be iffy. Two stops at 10% according to ABRP.

ADOT is hosting a public Open House this Wednesday, October 19, in Tucson. Details:

https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/AZDOT/bulletins/3321e36

ADOT to host in-person public meeting Oct. 19 in Tucson to roll out plan for statewide network of electric vehicle charging stations
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will host a public open house Oct. 19 in Tucson to share the details of its plan to develop a network of electric vehicle fast charging stations along interstate highways in Arizona using new federal funding through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program. The meeting will be the first in a series of public meetings throughout the state to share details of the initial plan implementation and seek public input on which additional highways throughout the state should be added to the ADOT EV network.
The meeting will be held:
  • Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 5-7 p.m.
  • Ramada by Wyndham - Cactus Ballroom, 777 W. Cushing St. in Tucson
The meeting will be an open house format without a formal presentation; a recorded presentation with study details will be shown throughout the meeting and study team members will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.
The goal of the federal NEVI program is to encourage adoption of electric vehicles by improving the accessibility, reliability and equity of clean transportation options.
For more information about the EV plan, additional ways to provide input, as well as details on upcoming meetings throughout the state, visit AZDOT.gov/EVPlan.

ADOT recently held an in-person public meeting in Yuma about their EV charging station plans. There is another one coming up soon in Kingman, and I'm sure several more after that...

Meanwhile, I thought you might be interested in this survey regarding ADOT's 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan:

ADOT seeking input on potential future electric vehicle corridors
Provide feedback through our online survey
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is seeking the public’s input on potential future electric vehicle (EV) corridors throughout the state as part of the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Plan.
The public can provide their input through the survey available here.
Details on the plan can be found on the study website at AZDOT.gov/EVPlan.
ADOT is set to receive $76.5 million in federal funding through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program over the next five years to establish publicly accessible EV charging stations along Arizona’s designated alternative fuel corridors, which are currently the interstate highways. The goal of the plan is to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles by creating a convenient, affordable, reliable and equitable network of chargers.
The survey will be open through Nov. 30.
For more information about the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Plan, additional ways to provide input and sign up for the mailing list, visit AZDOT.gov/EVPlan.
