Today, the temperature got to 113 in the West Valley.

We drove our new MME (with 500 miles on the odometer) 5 miles for some groceries in mid-day. Never exceeded 45 mph on suburban streets. SOC was 79% and the a/c was on. Outside temperature 113.

Returning to the house, got a message on the driver screen saying something like: ‘Due to extreme outside temperature-plug in the car’. (Warning sign did not stay on the screen very long).

With the car parked in the garage - and turned off - there was a constant beeping sound in the cabin. I then plug in the charger with the car still turned off. Fans came on, and the beeping sound inside the cabin stopped.

Questions:
What is ‘excessive’ heat limit for a MME?
Does the car run cooler at highway speeds (55 to 65) than suburban streets (25 to 45)?
Is it better to cool the cabin before leaving the garage?

That warning message is very common here in the Valley.
AFAIK, no one has figured out an exact temp that triggers it.
City or highway driving doesn't seem to matter.
I always use departure times or remote start to get the cabin comfortable before a drive. Being able to start/run the car in the garage is one of my favorite things about having an EV.

The owners manual says to plug in when 113 or higher, I get the message when ambient is between 105 and 110. GM recommends plugging in when above 90, and my Bolt will run battery cooling even when not plugged in. Usually the Bolt runs cooling when it is over 105. The temp gauge on the MME reads about 10 above ambient in hot weather.

The constant beeping was probably unrelated to the "I'm hot, maybe consider plugging me in" status. BTW -- I do not plug it in with any urgency... Mine doesn't start cooling itself down until 11 pm when my Preferred Charge hours begin.

Next time you're at the vehicle, check the headlamp switch. If it's not illuminated (and the dinging noise is happening), rotate it back to the Automatic position. This is a known issue.

I've gotten that message several times now coming home from work. My commute is mostly highway. I plug in as soon as I park in the garage. As far as I can tell it runs the fans to cool the battery but charging doesn't start until after 7PM (off peak)

Do you mind double checking that?

Mine hasn't ever done any fans or pumps while parked and turned off, except while plugged in AND within preferred charging hours (11p-5a for mine).

I have a 2021 job 1 vehicle. Maybe something has changed?

When I shut the car off in the garage I hear a humming sound which I'm assuming are fans still running. I plug in the car and my EVSE green light flashes green to indicate charging. My app shows waiting to charge until 7pm. I'm guessing the green light flashing indicates a draw to run cooling fans. I'll have to see if I hear the same sound when I shut the car off without the warning.

Hmm. So maybe something changed after '21 job 1. Interesting.

On mine, sometimes the EVSE will show active status lights but they go back to waiting-for-charge within a minute. I think the car's just checking to see what type of service is available. Not sure.

I hear pumps whirring when I turn off the vehicle but they turn off by the time I get it plugged in, so I'd estimate they stay running for only 10-15 seconds. The loud fans turn off within a second after I turn off the vehicle.

So I saw this yesterday. A tiny, short-lived blip.

How long does that last though? Still charging after 5 minutes? I've noticed it charges for less than a minute on mine after you plug in, then it stops and goes back to plugged in not charging until the scheduled time. I think it's just testing the power feed initially.

I got the plug in due to heat message tonight. When I got out of the car I heard the hum from the car. I plugged in the charger and got the blinking green light. I went inside and let the dogs out. Came back 7 minutes later and the EVSE wasn't blinking, just in standby waiting for the designated time to charge. The fan hum was still coming from the car so I guess it just runs off the battery until the car shuts it off.

Do you have a charge location set? How about a schedule? What is the maximum charge limit per your setting for that lication. What is your charge schedule for weekdays? Do you remember what the state of charge percentage was when you parked?

Home location is set. No charge from 4-7 weekdays. I charge up to 90% and I think I was about 66% when I got home. I usually charge every day. I see no reason not to start every day at 90%.

This is amazing... Your car is very very new, so it's possible Ford improved the heat management. Or it's just another of those one-of-a-kind quirks that Mach-Es seem to get.

OK this is going to sound super crazy, but by any chance are your headlights staying on for several minutes after you park the vehicle? Do you hear the "doo-dee-doo" chimes as soon as you open the driver door, even before you've sat down?

Just wondering because the fairly quiet hum (a pump? slower fan? not sure.) that I hear when I park in my garage turns off with the headlights, and they switch from full/on to courtesy/parking lights about 10 seconds after the vehicle is shut off.

My assumption is the noise you are describing is the headlamp cooling fans.
